| Personal History | Born on the Cardassian colony world of Gemulon V. Her parents were both young when they had her. After the treaty of 2370, her father who had previously considered going into the Cardassian military instead decided to join Starfleet, eventually going into Starfleet Intelligence. While he struggled with the biases against Cardassians, he also proved himself to be a valuable agent, especially during the Dominion war. He was decorated for actions helping to liberate Betazed. During the dominion war, Ziyal was kidnapped by agents of the Dominion in an attempt to coerce her father. They tortured her, mangling her right hand. Her father rescued her from her captors. While surgical treatment would save most of the functionality, her right middle finger had to be amputated. In 2382, she was accepted into Starfleet Academy. She did well, but not extraordinarily well in most of her classes. She had very high marks in logistics and what few engineering classes she took. Her attention to detail and high logistics marks made her a choice for Strategic Operations. Not intially assigned to a Starship, she worked at Starfleet headquarters strategic operations center. Her father was killed in 2387. The action that resulted in his death was highly classified. Ziyal has always suspected her father was actually still alive. |
