Kicked in the Gut

Posted on Wed Sep 28th, 2016 @ 3:47am by Commander Bertrand Cuprum & Captain Elijah Michaels & Commander Cor Cordale & Lieutenant Sara'draphia T'eseri & Lieutenant Valeria Mordin

Mission: Do Not Follow
Location: Conference Room, USS Victory

"All Senior Officers report to the Conference Room at once." Elijah said as he pressed something on the Table.

Bertrand arrived in a newly replicated, command red uniform. He tugged at the collar as he came in. Intellectually, he knew the measurements were an exact fit. Psychologically, he felt the uniform was too tight. He took a seat at the right hand of the captain's chair. He watched as the rest of the senior crew assembled.

"Hello everyone, I know you are probably sick of meetings like this but I want to see where we are at with Repairs and general well being." The Captain said with a nod towards his Crew.

"Cor how are repairs coming along?" He asked the Thux.

"We've taken care of all the major repairs, so we're in no immediate threat. Though, we've officially reached the part in any repair job where fixing one thing breaks something else. We're finding every overloaded wire, pack, and conduit that we missed with our last go-round of routine maintenance. Just putting out fires, really." a pause, "Not actual fires, mind you."

"Keep at it Commander, your guys and girls are in line for a drink in Nelsons when it is all over." Elijah with a nod. "Sickbay how are we doing with the wounded and recooperating?"

"The majority of the casualties have been attended to. There are still several patients that we're keeping in for observation and further treatment, but otherwise we are....Um, How do humans put it? out of the forest?"

"Thank you Doctor." He said before turning to Valeria. "Lieutenant, were you able to get what you needed in terms of Cartography from the Expanse?"

"When we lost power to all systems it halted the compilation of all the readings we were taking. Fortunately, when power was restored the process resumed and the amount of data we actually lost was minimal." the rabbitess reported. "Though, any data is more than what we had. I'll be attempting to restore what we lost before submitting it for the archives."

"Anything is better than nothing." He said with a smile. "Kevin my thanks to your team for assisting in the rescue efforts and helping Tactical, I will need you to be at Tactical for the time being."

Kevin nodded in silent acknowledgement of his teams mention and the request for him to remain at Tactical for the next while.

"Now as you know, the XO was pretty beat up in the attack." Elijah said looking at the vacant seat at the table, "she is stable, but will need some serious treatment away from here, so when we dock for repairs she and all the injured will be offloaded."

He looked towards Bertrand. "As a result of this, I have seen fit to make Lieutenant Commander Cuprum the Executive Officer of the Victory, that includes changing him into Command Red." Elijah gave a small chuckle. "That means that Cor, you are now the Second Officer on the Victory."

Bert shifted in his seat and resisted the urge to scratch in the new uniform. He glowered at the rest of the crew daring them to share the Captain's smirk at his expense.

Cordale just gave a nod, "Aye sir." in a reaction that was contrary to what most would take a promotion to be. Another upward advancement at the expense of another. He put on a smile, "Just as long as I don't have to wear red too. It clashes with my fur."

"Bertrand and I found a reference to our attackers in the old Vulcan Database. They are called the Jennarri, having last shown up in the mid 22nd century before disappearing into their own space until now." He said looking around. "Why they are back after all this time is not my concern, they attacked us and destroyed the Seattle with all hands, they will regret that decision should we meet them again."

"I know the last couple of days have been hard on all of us, but as the Senior Staff of the Victory we lead by example and you have proven that battered, bruised and kicked in the gut we will survive." He said with a tone of care. "We are a family, nobody messes with my family. Dismissed."

Quickly standing up from the table, Sara walked out of the Conference Room and headed straight back to sickbay. She still had a few patients that needed her personal attention.

Cordale was the next to stand. He already had quite the workload in his lap, so the sooner he got back to it the better. Though, he wasn't about to bowl people out of the way. He appreciated hearing the Captain's words. We're a family, he said.... and nobody messes with a Thux's family either.

The science officer was the next to depart, gathering her notes as she did. She'd have to consult those old records, to see if there was any relation between behavior in the past and current in regards to the Jennarri. Perhaps there was a regime change? Perhaps a new religion overtook the species? Research like that could possibly yield social weaknesses, if they couldn't defeat their technology. After all, there were people in those ships, why not just defeat them?

Something about this whole Jennarri situation didn't sit right with Kevin. It's one thing to show might and destruction, it's another to then turn almost one hundred and eighty degrees and start talking about spreading a religious belief and force it's countenance and rules on another species. He'd have to try and look into this a bit deeper, shake a few Intel branches and see what would fall out of the tree....
