Introductions

Posted on Thu Apr 6th, 2017 @ 7:24pm by Captain Elijah Michaels & Lieutenant Commander Ziyal Tajor

Mission: All the Kings Men: Wargames
Location: Captains Ready room, Deck One

Ziyal was not surprised that her new captain wanted to see her. She was worried, what if her outburst during the meeting had put something off about her? If he did not want her, then she would not be serving on his ship for very long. She was going to be the youngest of his senior officers. She took a breath to steady herself and hide her uncertainty. Then she pressed the button to let him know she was there.

"Come in!" Elijah said from his desk.

Ziyal stepped into his office, "You requested to see me sir?" She said, with perhaps a bit too much formality. Most of her experience had been at Starfleet Headquarters where formality was much more important then out in deep space. However, the formality was also a cover for her uncertainty. She had met more then her fair share of Captains and Admirals who judged her for being Cardassian.

"Yes Lieutenant." He motioned to the empty chair in his ready room. "Take a seat, do you prefer to be addressed as Ziyal or a Tajor? I know the Bajoran way of doing it but not overly sure on how to address you."

"Ziyal is my personal name, Tajor is my family name." She explained as she sat down. "At Starfleet Headquarters, we tended towards the more formal, Lieutenant Tajor. My friends called me Ziyal. Personally, I don't care what you call me, long as you call me for dinner." She said, smiling at the joke that she hoped would help break the ice.

"Whitty." Elijah chuckled. "Alright then Lieutenant I'll get straight to the point, Admiral Smith felt the need to have you embedded on the Cosmos." Elijah poured himself a cup of fresh and offerered her the opportunity to have some. "His judgement seemed to have paid off."

He seemed to be waiting for her to say something. "That would seem to be an accurate summation." She said neutrally, wondering where he was going with this.

He nodded. "I've read your file." He said as he paused to take a sip of tea. "Class of 86, Starfleet Headquarters as an expert in Hacking and Fleet Based Analysis." Elijah had a very good poker face. "But you've not really had a lot of Deep Space experience have you Miss Tajor?"

She nodded, "No sir, not for a lack of trying. I applied to several deep space assignments before I was assigned to the Cosmos by Admiral Smith. During that time, I had other concerns on my mind. However, I did not join Starfleet to see Earth." She emphasized the word star in starfleet.

"Noted." Elijah said as he pulled up some stuff on his terminal. "Well all that is in the past now, as far as I'm concerned you are now assigned to my Ship as a Department Head."

Ziyal let out a breath that she did not know she had been holding in relief. A lot of the tension she had been under flowed out of her. "Thank you sir, you won't regret it. Which department are you planning to put me in charge of?" She asked.

Elijah looked at her. "Strategic Operations is in need of a Department Head." He said as he slid her a PADD. "With an Intelligence Department already aboard and an Officer in charge, I feel your skill set would much suited there." He nodded. "You'll not have a lot to do at first but I'll be in need of you as the Jennarri threat increases."

He took a sip of his tea. "The XO will be your first port of call should you have any issues, I've informed the Quartermaster to assign you some Quarters and an Office also."

Ziyal nodded, the assignment made sense. "Aye sir, what do you expect out of your Strategic Operations Department? Other then the obvious."

"I'd like you on the Bridge for the upcoming visit to the Jennarri Border, if we are talking Strategy and resources I'll need you there." He commented to her with a nod. "I'd also advise speaking with Lieutenant Keller once you are settled in, the Diplomatic Detachment on the Ship can fill you in on the Jennarri."

The requests were logical, "Aye sir, I'll speak to Lieutenant Keller once I've settled in. I'll be sure to be on the bridge when we approach the border. Anything else?"

"Welcome to the a Victory Lieuteant Tajor." He said with a smile.
