A change in roles

Mission: Awakening

Chris had heard that one of the senior staff was transferring. He also knew that it would leave the protection of the ship in the hands of a junior officer, even if only temporarily. With the Lieutenant Commanders experience he decided to step up to the plate and approached the Commanding Officer with an offer. Evans hit the chime on the ready room door, nervous and excited at the same time he wasn't sure what the Captain would say when he brought up the offer to fill both positions.

"Come in." Elijah said with a glance towards the door of his Ready Room.

Evans entered the ready room and stood with his hands folded behind his back "Captain" he said with a nod and a smile.

"Ahh Commander Evans what can I do for you?" The Captain asked with a polite nod of his head.

"Sir as you no doubt have reviewed my service record" he paused and offered a smile "I was going to suggest that I be transferred to the Tactical position. As I would like to ensure the safety of the crew."

Bold. Very bold indeed. "Is that right?" Elijah asked with a look towards Evans. "Remind me again? You served as a Tactical Officer didn't you on a couple of Defiants and Nova Class Ships before you moved to Operations."

"Yes sir it was recommended" he said with a sarcastic tone "that I follow the Operations path when I went through Command school."

Elijah nodded. "The Command Track isn't an easy one." He said as he offered the Commander a seat at his desk. "Have a seat."

Taking the seat Chris gave a smile "Thank you sir, and I would agree" he paused briefly "it can be rather taxing."

"Alright I'll make this brief." Elijah said as he leant forward and interlocked his fingers. "I can have Tarlee cover Operations for the time being and there are numerous suitable candidates to take it over." The Captain commented. "Tactical is a position we need filling and sadly Karadis isn't qualified enough just yet.......Alright the job is yours."

"Thank you Captain" Evans said as he sat up in his chair. "I won't let you down sir" he said with a smile on his face. He was a little nervous, but extremely excited at the same time.

"You're dismissed Commander." Elijah said with a final nod and smiled.

"Thank you again sir" Evans said standing and making his exit from the ready room. It was an honor that the Captain granted his request and he wanted to make him proud.
