To New Beginnings

Mission: Awakening
Location: USS Port Lancaster & Victory

[USS Port Lancaster]

“Well, if that’s the way it has to be…” A young lady said as tears started to fill her eyes. Alex was sitting on the Observation lounge of the USS Port Lancaster, the ship that he was hitching a ride on to his new assignment. He didn’t know anyone on the ship, so he chose to ‘people watch’ and view the interactions between the crew. Most were happy; some were sad, such as the young couple separating.

“We’re five minutes out from the Victory, Lieutenant” came from a passing steward. Alex had received his transfer orders only a few days prior. He chose not to speak and instead simply offered a smile while standing and making his way to the transporter room. His personal belongings, though spare, were stowed away in the cargo bay and had not been disturbed during his short tenure on the Port Lancaster.

The transporter chief was at his posting when Alex stepped into the room. “We’re ready for you, sir.” The Chief offered.

Alex nodded and stepped up on the pad; within seconds, he was standing in the Victory’s transporter room.

[USS Victory]

Alex stepped down off the pad and up to the officer who was posted at the transporter station. “Thank you,” he offered as the young crewman returned a smile. He then turned and went out of the room. The Sovereign Class ship was truly magnificent and spacious. Alex looked down at the PADD in his hand to view his assigned quarters, where he intended to initially find and make sure his belongings were transported correctly.

When he stepped into his quarters and right away saw the cases stacked neatly near the center of the room. Alex then stepped over the desk near the edge of his quarters; he had requested the Intelligence Staff to prepare a short memo style briefing of the current status of the ship before he met with anyone. He didn’t much care for entering situations without the fullest of knowledge and details.

The report was as he requested, about a paragraph in length and detailed that the Victory was heading towards a region of space to mediate a dispute between the Dalacari and Ts’usgui. Alex had been quickly briefed on the races previously, but not the current state of affairs or the incident that the Victory was heading to. He shrugged. He had some catching up to do and intended to so that he wasn’t behind the pace when duty called.
