And Then There Were Two
Of Machines and Men
Location: USS Victory, Science Department
Jaton stepped off the turbolift and turned into the science complex on Deck 7, and was immediately gobsmacked. The science department on the Pioneer had nothing to compare with the facilities on the Victory, and he knew that he had in fact made the right decision in transferring to a Sovereign class vessel.
A science crewman came up the corridor and nodded at Jaton. "Sir," she said. And that was enough to snap him out of his awe. Mentally shaking it off, he turned around to face the crewman.
"Excuse me, but I'm looking for Lt Lin. Do you know where she is?"
"Yes sir, she's in her office. Just down the hall, third door on your left."
"Thank you, crewman," Jaton replied, giving her a polite smile. He proceeded down the hall and turned into the open door and saw the CSO seated at her desk reading a PADD. He cleared his throat politely to get her attention.
"I'm sorry to interrupt, ma'am. Lt Jaton Alyl, reporting in."
"Alyl... Alyl.... Ah yes." she said, looking at the profile she saw in front of her. "It's a pleasure to meet you. Did you just get aboard?" she asked.
Jaton stood rigidly in front of the desk, a perfect image of formality. "Yes, ma'am. My transfer was just approved by Captain Michaels. I've only so far had time to transfer my belongings to my new quarters on the Victory. I wanted to come report in as soon as possible and get up to speed on what the Science department is working on."
"It's been a little hectic but so far it looks like its just been a lot of analysis of a couple anomalies our sensors picked up. We've been trying to narrow down what these particular particles are that kept interfering with our sensors. Whatever they are, I suspect the Jennari may have tried to use it to their advantage. The operative word being 'tried.'
"Understood, ma'am. Just tell me what you need me to do and I'll get started right away."
