Mission:
Commanding the Elements
Location: Corridor - USS Victory
Timeline: After "Cutting it Short" (backpost)
ON:
Once dismissed from the staff meeting, Wyatt, along with Honey and Valeria, exited the briefing room. There was silence between the three, silence that Wyatt felt a bit uncomfortable with. This was going to be his test, to prove that he could run the science department on the Victory. He had taught hundreds of cadets, so in his mind this couldn't be that hard. Though, one couldn't be so confident in such matters, it meant ego was getting in the way at that point.
He was also unnerved by what he saw in that meeting. There seemed to be tension between some of the members of the staff. At least that is what it felt like to him. He would have to ask about it later, now wasn't the time. He was also saddened by what was happening on Haven Colony. There would be so much loss, and he just hoped that they would be able to help in time.
But, he pushed that doom and gloom from his mind, and directed his attention to Honey. "Is this your first away mission, Ensign?" he asked.
"Not only my firssst away misssion, but alssso my firssst missssion period, Sssir." Honey volunteered, a little bit quieter than she meant. "Thisss posssting isss my firssst, alssso firssst time away from the Flanagan inssstitute." A slight pause. "I can't deny a bit of nervoussssnessss."
The slightest of smiles crossed Wyatt's lips at that. "Nothing like jumping in feet first," he said. "Despite the dire circumstances, you will learn a lot. With every away mission, you gain experience."
Honey smiled and bounced on her feet a bit. "Oh yesss! Quite looking forward to sssetting foot on a planet for the firssst time. Ssshould be very amazing!" she beamed with enthusiasm. "Do you have any tipsss for me, Sssir? Thingsss I should keep in mind? Preparationsss I need to make?"
Valeria gave the pair a soft smile as they chatted. The tension in the briefing room was thick and disheartening, but that's what happened when cobblers wanted to make socks. Their new chief, Wyatt, seemed like a decent enough person. Human or otherwise, he appeared knowledgeable and personable, two very important traits. She'd keep quiet, but turned to let the pair know that she was paying attention. This was Honey's moment, her first away mission, her first planet. This was indeed Honey's moment.
Wyatt gave the questions some thought as he rummaged his memory for his own experiences. "The best advice I can give you, Ensign, is just always be aware of your surroundings. Keep an eye out. Also, just be prepared for a change in a moments notice. Not every away mission goes as planned." He looked to his assistant chief. "Anything to add Valeria?"
The rabbitess admired Honey's enthusiasm. That almost child-like joy at the prospect of a new experience. "I would add to expect the unexpected, but I believe you captured that." a pause, before she turned to face Honey directly, "I believe you'll do well. When we arrive, just take a moment to experience the moment. Your first world. Take a breath of its air, feel its wind. We'll have a task to accomplish, but I think we can afford a moment to allow you that." she said with a smirk.
Honey giggled, twirling around once, almost thwapping Valeria and Wyatt in the legs with her tail. "I know I ssshouldn't be ssso excited, it'sss a disssassster and ssstormsss and people are being evacuated, going to losssse their homessss and all, but - ... I'm going to walk on a real planet." She beamed a grin, gold eyes sparkling, rows of small, triangular, razorsharp teeth displayed as her gills flared.
Wyatt couldn't help but really smile at the enthusiasm. Though the situation was dire, he certainly could understand Honey's enthusiasm. "Valeria is right though, you need to take that first few moments just to take it all in." He paused, his smile falling, as his duty as the ensign's department head took over. "Just remember, we will have a job to do. The key to it, is team work."
"Though, I believe you'll enjoy that moment. Just be mindful." Valeria warned, "Gravity is much different on a world then it is on a ship or a station. There's nothing artificial about it there. It's real, and while it will feel very similar to artificial gravity, there's just something... genuine, comforting almost... about an actual gravity effect." Valeria stated, before half-turning towards Wyatt, "Though, Mister Wyatt is correct. Just be on your proverbial toes once the moment passes." she recited what Wyatt said, giving his statement more gravity. No pun intended, of course.
"I'll keep it in mind." Honey agreed. She knew she still had a job to do, but she was going to take a moment to just allow herself to enjoy her first time on a planet.
Valeria gave Honey a smirk. That enthusiasm was indeed infectious. "I'd say that it's a pity that your first planetary encounter is one with such a vicious storm system forming, but it really just adds to your experience by giving you a sample of nature's weather unchained." a pause, "The wind in your face, the rain against your skin." she listed just two effects to look forward to.
"Though, the Multipaw should remain behind. Confined to quarters, I'd say." she added with a smirk.
"Well, ofcourssse. That ssspeaksss for itssself." Honey seemed almost offended by the idea that Valeria seemed to think Honey needed to be told this. Almost,
Valeria gave a nod, quietly. Had she hurt her friend's feelings, so close to a pivotal point in Honey's life?
"I meant no disrespect, Honey." the 'fluffybunny' started, "You're facing new experiences and new frontiers. I should have given you the courtesy that you knew what was and wasn't acceptable, considering the precedent this crew has seemingly set in regards to the freedom allotted to animal companions."
"No offenssse taken, Valeria." Honey replied with a smile. "Abigail Bissscuit belongsss on the ssship, while I go do the posssssibly dangerousss ssstuff on the planet. Thisss way ssshe isss sssafe and in a controlled environment, there isss no risssk of infection and ssshe won't get in the way of my dutiesss." A small pause. "I may be young and inexperienced, I may be sssilly sssome timesss, but I am a ssscientissst, and a Ssstarfeet officer." she concluded, puffing her chest out a bit. Scientist and Starfleet officer. Badges of honor, those were to her.
