Chilled reception.

Posted on Fri Apr 7th, 2017 @ 12:16am by Lieutenant Commander Ziyal Tajor

Mission: The Trial of Cor Cordale
Location: Chief of Security's office.
Timeline: Current.

Ziyal stood outside Kevin's office, Kevin had seemed very annoyed at the meeting and so she was unsure about how he was going to react to her. However, she needed to know more about the Jennari. She took a breath, steadied herself, and pressed the comm button to let him know someone wanted to see him.

Kevin was deep in thought as he stared at the screen on the PADD in front of him. He'd almost finished updating the information contained within when the chime on the Comm button sounded.

"What now???" he exclaimed through gritted teeth "I told Karadis I wasn't to be disturbed."

He jabbed the intercom and said "Karadis, unless this ships on fire, being torn asunder by some behemoth or space faring leviathan or having the mother of all warp core breaches, I told you NOT to disturb me!!!!"

Ziyal looked at the intercom considered how to respond for a moment. Perhaps she should come back at another time. However, it seemed rude not to answer him, for Karadis's sake at the least. She calmed her emotions and replied, "I'm glad I'm not Karadis then. If this is a bad time, I can come back later."

"Who's this?" Kevin asked, a little surprised at not hearing Karadis voice answering him back.

Ziyal nodded to herself, "Lieutenant Tajor, the Victory's new Strategic Operations officer, and I want to talk to you about the Jennari."

"Tajor...our new Strategic Operations Offi....ah yes, you're a draftee from the traitors ship the Cosmos" Kevin said haughtily "A word of advice for information gathering on this ship Lieutenant, we don't make it insistent that we talk to people, we ask if we can. I'm to busy with something just now, come back later."

Tajor felt a sudden hot anger at being called a traitor. She took a breath and hid her emotions. "And what would be a good time to come back in the next couple days?" She asked coolly.

Kevin got up out of his seat and walked to the door. Opening it, he looked at Ziyal and said "When I'm good and ready. What the hell do you need to know about the Jennari for, you were with Gates, surely he explained what they were doing and why you betrayed your oath?"

Ziyal had been called many things, both growing up and as an officer. She had learned to shrug most of them off. Most of the time, they did not know what it really meant to be Cardassian or the sacrifices that her family and she had made for the Federation. Being called a traitor personally was the thing that really irked her. She hid her emotions, doing her best to remain calm and not get discharged for slugging a fellow officer.

"As for betraying my oath, I personally did no such thing as you should well know. Admiral Gates gave us the information he wanted us to see. I want to ensure that the information I have is both complete and up to date." She said, faking a smile and pleasant tone, but probably not well enough for Kevin to be fooled. She glanced at her tablet. "I'm sorry, I wasn't able to find 'when I'm good and ready' on my calendar. Would fifteen hundred hours today work for you?" She asked, the sarcasm starting to strain through her pleasent voice.

"No, when I'm good and ready means 'when I'm good and ready'" Kevin reiterated "if you're perceiving to be the new Chief Operations Officer, this isn't boding well for you not being able to understand a commonly used phrase. Besides that, going back to Gates for a second, the fact that you were at the Archive, possibly one of the most secretive facilities the Federation has, and with only 2 other ships, wasn't a hint to you that something was out of turn, I mean really?"

Ziyal dropped the nice act and gave into her sarcasm. "I think my first hint might have been when a high-ranking intelligence officer said 'Hey! Ziyal, I can get you onto a deep space ship, but you'll have to spy on them for me because I think something funky is going on.' But that's just an admiral giving you secret orders. I mean you can't possibly take that seriously. However, if I didn't get the clue then, it must have been, I don't know, after I hacked into my ship's computers to let him know that Gates was going to the archive. It wasn't possibly before I shot two crewmates to ensure they couldn't erase the evidence. But if that did not clue me in, I'm sure that a security officer who doesn't know when to shut up or how to listen when people are talking to him is going to do the trick."

"Why didn't you say so in the first place" Kevin smirked, assured at the sarcasm "come on in and take a load off!" he added, walking back into his office and sitting at his desk.

Ziyal was still angry at him, but did her best to hide it and sat down. "Must have slipped my mind, I mean it's not like it's in my after action report or admiral Smith mentioned it at a meeting or anything." She said with sarcasm.

Kevin took note, Ziyal seemed to be easily angered, though she did a tremendous job hiding it. One or two slight tell tale signs gave away though, so he decided to play it easy.

"After everything this crew has been through in recent times, Gates, Smith, the Jennari, it's difficult not to be a little leery of certain issues" Kevin said coyly "I mean, it's not as if there's an us and them differential in staff now....is there..."

Ziyal nodded, "No, there shouldn't be. Not with the Jennarri threatening to attack us soon. You were there when they attacked the Victory, correct?" She asked professionally.

"This works two ways Lieutenant" Kevin said "You get answers to your questions, and I get answers to mine. You want information about the Jennari, I want information about Gates. To answer your question, yes, I was on the Victory when they attacked. My turn, why were you placed on Gates ship by Smith?"

Ziyal nodded, "Internal Affairs Intelligence suspected that Gates was up to something, but they did not know what. Tell me everything about the attack."

"No, you get pieces when you answer my questions" Kevin said, "and don't treat me like this is an interrogation Lieutenant, or this ends very quickly with you leaving this office pronto, got that?"

He sat back and steepled his fingers. "We found something in the Seattle's database, an image of what we thought was a ship. We tried to use it to determine how they were designed. Now, stop being vague, Internal Affairs don't send people anywhere on suspicions, they only send people in when they have solid facts. What did they know about Gates plan that made them specifically send you?"

Ziyal was slightly annoyed by him foiling her tactic. One more thing to add to the growing pile of reasons for her not to like him. However, she kept it hidden. "That was two questions, so I'll answer the first. Yes, as long as you also understand that this is not an interrogation for you either. I've done my reading and I've talked to several officers before you. I don't need your personal input on the Jennari, but I like hearing things from the horse's mouth as it were. I can turn around and leave here and still have everything I would like to. Which is why I want you to put what happened next in your own words."

"If you already have what you need regarding the Jennari from others, then we're finished here. Feel free to recuse yourself and do as you say and turn around and leave" Kevin replied, going back to the PADD on his desk "I have more important duty situations to attend to than having an interrogation debate with a pissed off Ops Officer, good day Lieutenant."

Ziyal got up, and smiled at Killbane. "Thank you for your time Lieutenant." She said as she left.

"And you for yours Lieutenant" Kevin replied.
