Briefing After Briefing

Posted on Sat Jul 15th, 2017 @ 12:25am by Lieutenant Alexander Vickers & Lieutenant Commander Ziyal Tajor & Lieutenant JG Elliot Keller

Mission: Awakening
Location: Strategic Operations Offices

Alex strode into the Strategic Ops offices and tapped the door chime to Lieutenant Tajor's office. After quickly meeting and reporting in with the Captain, and instructed to meet with Tajor and the ships Chief Diplomat, Alex didn't waste time getting there. He had already shifted through the briefings that Lieutenant Mordin provided the crew before his arrival and had also met with her to discuss the details.

Ziyal's office was, in her opinion, at just the right brightness level. When the chime sounded, she groaned to herself. "Lights up" she said, and the room instantly became too bright. Not painful, but enough that it made her eyes ache after long days spent in it. She blinked as her eyes adjusted to the brightness. Then once they had, she stood. "Enter."

Alex stepped in and relaxed his shoulders. "Lieutenant Tajor?"

"Lieutenant Vickers, good to meet you, come in, come in." Ziyal said with a smile, extending her hand to the human.

Alex offered a firm handshake in return. "I just met with Captain Michaels and he suggested I meet with you to make sure we're all on the same page. He also said that Lieutenant Keller may be of help; should we call him?"

"No need, I already got the call from the Captain." Elliot said as he walked in just behind offered his hand to Vickers. "Lieutenant Elliot Keller, Diplomatic Liason Officer and Political Specialist."

Alex shook the hand while replying, "Nice to meet you. Shall we get started? I've met with Lieutenant Mordin and received preliminary briefings over what information that we currently know."

Elliot nodded. "Yes the situation is a little bit peculiar to say the least." Keller said as he offered the Intelligence Officer a chair opposite Ziyal. "We represent the three most unique Deprtments on this Ship, Intelligence, Strategic Operations and Diplomacy."

"As the Junior Officer here I'm speaking on behalf of my Department Head who is on leave." Elliot commented. "The upcoming objective is unique in that the three of us will have to provide an agreed perspective on the two races."

Alex took his seat while listening to the two others. "I understand the two have been in a sort of codependent compact for over a hundred years now."

"Very much so according to Lieutenant Mordin, they've developed a mutual accord that suits both parties to an extent." Elliot commented.

"And this has all been caused by a disagreement over a computer..." Alex paused, "No. Artificial Intelligence, correct?"

"That is part of the problem, we don't know. The Ts'usugi have great reservations about Artificial Intelligence and I'm not sure I can blame them. The Dalacari depend greatly on dones of all types and these drones rely on a Thinking Engine. That name by it's self should tell you that we are walking into a grey area. If it was easily decidable if it was just an advanced computer or a prohibited artificial intelligence, then we would not be called in."

Alex nodded. "Part of this mediation could come down to a determination or a classification of what they have developed, and of course finding something which all can agree on."

"Agreed, it's also unofficially a chance to examine them as potential members or allies to the Federation." Elliot commented as he made notes. "Starfleet needs allies in the Delta Quadrant and also with the Jennarri threat increasing, we need to know that they don't have other issues that can hinder progress."

Ziyal nodded in agreement, "If they choose to join the Federation, they will be our first members in the Delta Quadrent. They are strategically important for many reasons."

"I see," Alex stated as he mused over the facts in his head. "They both present a lucrative opportunity for the federation, if we are successful. Is there anything the Diplomatic Corps needs that I can help with?"

"At the moment no." Elliot commented. "The Diplomatic Corps has enough resources to get it done, just maybe a bit of extra man power may be needed, nothing too extreme."

Alex returned a nod to Keller and then focused on Tajor. "As you probably know, the Intelligence feed has been limited with this situation. Nonetheless, is there anything that I can help you with before we arrive?"

"I would like to see your analysis of the Jennari, if you have time to do that. I don't need it immediately, but after this mission, we are probably going to be dealing with them one way or another and I'll need it then. However, that is secondary to anything you need to do for this mission." Ziyal requested.

"Absolutely; I'll have what information I can give out sent to you shortly." Alex responded. He hadn't had much chances to look over those files in depth and assumed he could learn a great deal from the crew.

"I'm sorry, I was perhaps unclear. I got most of the files I needed from your predecessor. If there is something new, certainly send it over. However, what I'm asking for is your personal analysis of the Jennari threat."

"I think the Jennarri are something for a later date." Elliot intruded the conversation. "There is far too much information to discuss to cover at the moment."

Alex nodded with Keller's statement. "I'll make my analysis available once we're past our present dilemma."

"Understood." Keller nodded. "Is there anything else we need to cover?" The young Diplomat asked the two of them.

"I don't believe so," Alex said as he stood to make his exit. "I look forward to working together." With a quick nod, he turned and left for his office; he felt as if he should look back through the many analysis reports again prior to the ships arrival at the rendezvous.
