Random encounter (Backpost)

Posted on Sun Jan 28th, 2018 @ 2:57pm by Lieutenant Simon Stevens & Lieutenant Hel Samedi

Mission: Of Machines and Men
Location: Corridor- Uss Victory

Hel was lost in thought, while driving her hoverchair. As such the pale - near white - engineering officer didn't really look where she was going as she rounded the corner, driving straight into~

Having left the Captain Simon had been made the assistant chief of Ops and was on his way to see his new boss and also to sickbay for the dreaded physical, when suddenly a hover chair with a female officer in it crashed into his legs," He said," Watch out," as he knew that she did not mean to run into him as Simon stood 5 feet 7 inches tall with black hair and green eyes.

"Oh I'm sorry! So sorry. You ok?" Hel cringed when she realized what she'd done. Even more pale than her usual self, even her voice still a bit weak. She backed the chair up and looked up at the other officer with an apologetic face. "You're not hurt, are you? These things weigh a bit, I wouldn't like to get hit by one either."

"No I'm not hurt" replied Simon looking at her, He said," Hi, I'm Lieutenant Simon Stevens, the new Assistant chief of Operations," looking back at her and gave her a smile he thought oO she don't look well Oo, he asked," Are you feeling alright?" as he forgot to ask her name as he noticed her Rank pips " Lieutenant..."

"Hel Samedi, assistant chief engineer." she offered a pale hand in greet, look of concern replaced with a friendly smile. "Oh, the chair? Don't worry about that. I got injured a few weeks back, still recovering. I should be up and about normally again soon enough."

" I mean you look very pale," replied Simon looking back at her as he continued "and nice to meet you by the way," shaking the offered hand, as he knew that having to meet the chief medical officer was a requirement and so was his boss, Simon asked "So, where was you going till you ran into me?" posing the question to her.

"Pale? Oh, that's normal, for me. I'm from Asphodel colony. We're all very pale." Hel shrugged a bit. "I was just wandering around, mostly. Got a lot on my mind. Wandering helps me think, especially when lacking other options."

"Other options?" asked Simon looking at her with a raised eyebrow and thought oO Must look that Planet up when I get to my quarters, Oo as he still had a lot to learn about his new crewmates, Still at least he had something to research when he had the time, but he didn't at the moment as things he guessed were going to get interesting here.

"I can't very well go mountain climbing, basejumping or spelunking while I'm still recovering." hel mused, motioning for Simon to continue on his walk. "I mean, I'm not hoverchair bound, but walking is still difficult for me so until I'm fully recovered, I'm limited in what I can do and where I can go."

"I see," replied Simon looking back at her, He continued," And do you have anyone helping you to learn to walk again?" as he knew after finishing saying what he had said, she would take it that he was offering to help her, but at least getting her out of that chair would help her and the more she walked the stronger her mussels would get. as he knew that he was now getting slightly late for his meetings.

She chuckled softly, following along for the conversation. She had nowhere else to go really, so why not. "It's not that I forgot how to walk or need to relearn, I'm just not strong enough to." she explained before turning a bit more serious. "Was caught in an explosion. Was lucky, survived with chest injuries, concussion, internals all messed up. Others were less lucky. Bad day for everyone involved."

"Ah, Sorry to hear that Hel," replied Simon as he continued on as he thought oO Hel, now where have I heard Oo as he stopped dead in his tracks and looked back at her, "Don't tell me you're nameds after the Norse Goddess of death Hela," as this was a rather disturbing name to have for a living being, as he continued," Who was the Daughter of Loki, If I remember corectly"

Hel chuckled. "I am. And my little sister Nirrti's named after the Sindhu goddess of deathly hidden realms and sorrow. My father Yama is named after Yamaraja, an early Hindu god of death and my mother is named after a Japanese goddess of creation and death." A slight pause. "Yeah we've got a bit of a theme going on. Common practice on my home colony. Remnants of old Earth voodoo influence, culture celebrating death and so on and so forth."

He thought oO Oh boy what a dark place that must be, Oo as he looked back at her He replied "So gods and goddesses then," replied Simon," Are they worshipped there or not if you bear the name," as he thought her bearing the name of a goddess," as he hoped that wasn't the case but her planet's religion was none of his concern.

"Just named after." Hel mused. "Oh don't get me wrong, we're not some death-worshipping cult of doom or anything. It's just a leftover from old Earth culture. Asphodel was founded by refugees from the old center of New Orleans on Earth, brought the Voodoo culture with them. Over the centuries we're dropped the religious aspects of it, but the general identity remains."

"It's easy to recognize someone from Asphodel. We're all pale, commonly named after old gods or goddesses of Death and wear contacts." Hel concluded.

"Ah ok, Sorry if i offended you," replied Simon, as he hoped that he hadn't offended her and her home world, he looked back at her and hoped that she would forgive him, He said," Anyway I have to get to Sickbay for my physical,"

Hel smiled. "No offense taken. Come, I'll show you to sickbay. God knows I know the way by now." as she led the way. "So, tell me a bit about yourself?"

"Well, I was born in London on Earth," replied Simon, looking back at Hel, he continued " My mother and father are no longer with us as they were involved in a shuttle accident whilst I was at the Academy," as he looked back at the floor in remembrance to his folks, He continued, "and it feels raw still thinking about at even now and after the transfer from the Galileo," He finished," I even at one time considered giving up my commission," as he knew that it would have made them unhappy that he had done so.

"Sorry 'bout your loss." Truth be told, Hel said that mostly out of courtesy. She'd long ago found that she held a different view on death than most other people did. "What would you have done if you had given up your commission?"

"I don't know," came the reply as Simon still had to come to terms with his loss, he continued" Maybe I'd of tried to find out what had happened to them and why it happened as I was in security before I came here," looking back at them and finished," and maybe made a nuisance of myself to try and find the culprit who did this,"

"Culprit?" Hel asked, surprised. "Was that shuttle accident not an accident, then?"

"From what the records show was that the other shuttle had taken off from Starfleet command," replied Simon looking back at Hel, He continued," and I smell a cover up," as he didn't like to talk about it much, but he always had felt that there had been something happen on the other shuttle that hadn't been explained after the hearing or even during the hearing and it nagged at him even now.

Hel remained silent for a moment, parsing this new information, trying to figure how to respond, if she was able to help. She couldn't. "I'm - ... I don't quite know what to say." she eventually offered. "You need someone in intelligence with an established network to help you get to the bottom of that."

"So who do I see about that then?" asked Simon.

Hel shrugged. "I'm just an engineer. I don't know about such things."

"ah ok, thanks Hel," replied Simon as they came across the blue doors of the Sickbay, He finished," This is where we part ways for now Hel, I'll see you around," as he gave her a smile and a wave and he entered the Sickbay to have his Physical done.

"Was nice to meet you, Simon. Even if the way how left something to be desired." She offered a wave and a smile as he disappeared.
