Help Has Arrived

Posted on Tue Sep 11th, 2018 @ 10:18am by Captain Elijah Michaels & Commander Cor Cordale & Telar Orin

Mission: Trills and Thrills
Location: Bridge

(Okay, so whoever is on the bridge at this time who should be involved in answering a hail could, in theory, be added to this post. This post will be to introduce a temporary figure onto the Victory to act as a counselor for Val Seran, the Dalacari.)

A shuttle-craft style vessel emerged from warp well within comfortable limits. The style was odd, and to say the least certainly unusual, though pleasant to say the least. Possibly twice as big as a Runabout in terms of length and width, though still just as high as one. Initial scans showed only shields were raised, though there was both primary and secondary shield generators, an oddity for a ship that small. Weapons were detected, but were unpowered. It was around that time that the Victory received a hail from the approaching shuttle.

The Officer on the Bridge patched it through and went through the standardised procedures required for an Officer.

The image onscreen was of some form of automaton, a robot. It had features most could relate to: A head, two arms, and a torso, though anything else was below the screen. The droid had a soft, silver-colored frame though most of the shine had been buffed out to leave the silver just a soft matte color, while the actual coverings themselves over the rest of the automaton were a soft white. Almost a porcelain in shade. What lacked a lot of features though was the head. A simple spot of light for an optic, and a bit of a flared cuff for the head's structure itself. Though, when it spoke, it sounded calm and professional. Hardly as robotic or menacing as it would appear.

"Good Welcome. I am designate Cypruss Thirty Three, official assistant to Doctor Telar Orin. Doctor Telar Orin is a health care professional specializing in Disrupted Link Syndrome. His office reception received an inquiry from your medical department in regards to such a condition. With permission, this shuttle will request docking or landing instructions and Doctor Telar Orin can offer assistance as per his qualifications." There was something off about having a conversation with something that didn't need to pause to breath or inflect. Though, it moved its head as though it were speaking, and the spotlight of its optic dimmed in time with each word. The view beyond the droid was more of the interior of the shuttle: Soft corners, comfy chairs, a few terminals. The cockpit, obviously.

"I am Captain Michaels of the Starship USS Victory." The Captain responded to the Automated machine that had contacted them. "We have been expecting you for a few days."

The drone on the viewscreen gave a nod, the light on his optic dimmed and then resumed its usual brightness in a rapid series of pulses. "Doctor Telar Orin is delighted to hear this. He has authorized me to turn over naviga... I have been informed by Doctor Telar Orin that the Federation, in fact, does not have the same approach protocols as a Dalacari cruiser would. I have been informed that I should request an approach vector for docking and tractor guidance, if this is correct. Apologies for the misunderstanding."

It seemed polite enough.

"Doctor Telar Orin will require special considerations once on board, would he be allowed to speak to you or someone in authority during his visit considering these?"

"That should not be a problem at all." Elijah responded. "We shall await your arrival."

The drone gave a nod to signify acknowledgement, and the end of the dialogue. It maneuvered as required of the tractor system to land in the Victory's shuttlebay. The sleek alien craft came to a soft landing, and powered down to a low idle state though didn't power down entirely. The access hatch opened and lowered like a ramp, and three forms walked down the ramp. The first was the drone that was on the screen previously. Bipedal, well balanced, and well manufactured. If anything could be said about it, it was that it walked with a simulated form of pride. This was possibly a decommissioned military unit re-purposed for civilian use. The next pair down the ramp could only be Dr. Orin himself, as he made his way down with the assistance of a walking stick for each of his forms.

One of his bioforms had a limp of some form, though identifying which one that was was difficult, as both of them seemed to favor a leg and walk with assistance. To gauge his age, one would easily put him somewhere around sixty years, if counting Federation wise. Having studied some names and faces before his arrival, he walked directly towards Elijah with some help from that cane, and extended a hand.

"I believe this... is the gesture you're expecting." he said with a wizened smirk. "My name is Telar Orin, I'm a psychologist specializing in treating damaged links and Single Dalacari. On behalf of the medical community, and the Republic, I greet you as a friend." he had a way of talking, a gentle tone, that just could put you at ease. He also didn't shift his focus between his two forms nearly as often as any other Dalacari thus far encountered. Training, or just mental prowess.

"I am Captain Michaels." The Captain smiled offering his hand. "I welcome you to the Victory it is a pleasure to meet you." The Human male had a basic understanding of their species based on recent encounters and it felt refreshing to meet a Dalacari who was an expert in a unique field.

"An honor and a privilege." the Doctor that was shaking his hand spoke. "There are a a few minor concessions I'd like to request. My service drone, Cypruss Thirty-Three." the silent twin motioned to the drone, who stood slightly more at attention once the attention was on it. "It's function is to aid me in the daily..."

"... routine, as it is slightly more mobile than I am. I'd like your permission for it to accompany me. It is completely unarmed, and will submit to any and all requests of an authority figure." he assured the captain. "Also, in connection with that request, there's a small civilian grade..."

"... Thinking Engine on the shuttle, which helps Cypruss with its functions. The traffic it generates is minor, and is across a subspace frequency. If this interferes with the operations of your craft I'll certainly make adjustments..."

"... but, to ensure proper and efficient performance of Cypruss, it would be best if there was some form of connection. I apologize if this is a difficult decision."

"Those are more than acceptable terms." Elijah nodded in response. "I see no issues with your requests and if it helps with your duties then you have expressed permission."

Dr. Orin gave a pair of nods. "Thank you for your understanding and consideration." then one of the forms turned towards the drone. "Hear that, Cypruss? Another day of functionality." and the drone gave a nod in return, "Bless the Maker, sir." came the retort, with a touch more sarcasm than expected. Though, with years of expectation data on the doctor, the Thinking Engine on the shuttle probably knew more about Orin than he did about himself.

"I'll need about an hour, you use hours yes, an hour to settle, and then I can start seeing Val. I can offer my services to any of your crew, considering my credentials." the Dalacari offered. "Though first, if you have a space for me to work..."

"... out of, I'd like to see that first. If there isn't one available, I can work out of the shuttle." he paused and smirked, "It's very comfy."

"There is a full inventory of your office space, your quarters assignment and also a map of the ship." Elijah signalled to the Crewman behind him. "This Crewman will show you around and help you with your bags."

"Thank you captain. I look forward to starting my work. Cypruss." the doctor's twin forms turned towards his drone assistant, who came to attention quickly. Then one of the forms turned to look at the crewman indicated, "After you sir."

The gathering soon parted ways and continued about their daily duties. It was good to see there was a professional around to help ease the burden on the counselling staff.
