Picking from the Brain.

Posted on Wed Jun 3rd, 2015 @ 11:27am by Captain Elijah Michaels & Commander Bertrand Cuprum

Mission: Debts to be settled......

Elijah walked down the long Hallway from the Shuttlebay to the Turbolift, on a Sovereign Class Ship it wasn't as confined as you would expect it to be on say an Intrepid or a Defiant.

"So Bertrand what is your honest assessment of the Situation?" Elijah asked his Security Chief.

Bertrand quickened his pace slightly to walk next to the CO, "We are missing something important. Records say Jem'Hadar attacked the station and the pattern of small arms fire is consistent with frightened scientists firing laser weapons at invisible targets, so I am going to accept that is an accurate report. However JH are notorious for their efficiency. Even if they had crashed on this planet, they would come to this station for a reason. It wasn't supplies, and it wasn't an act of terrorism, as this is a remote station."

"No, I suspect they wanted something or someone on the station. They took a lot of scientific data and went to some lengths to hide the fact that they had. They also took 14 of the crew. It would seem that they were after some information, hoping to gain it from the records or from the science team themselves."

"And yet there is still something missing. The survivour we found claims they were only working on Botanical samples, and the lab we found him in did seem to be about examining certain plants. Something about resistance to energy emissions, I think. Perhaps there was a new development in shielding they were after but..."

Bertrand stopped short, "GOT IT!"

Elijah looked at him very confused. He should have come to expect this from the man who once had him in his Brig. But then every so often there was a surprise. "Do tell Lieutenant."

Bertrand's face was a hungry grin now, "I know the piece of the puzzle I have been missing. How did they know? How did the JH know what was being researched on this tiny, back water world where even sensors don't find anything?"

"Two options. First, they were there all along, perhaps performing similar research themselves. Second, there was a mole; a Dominion agent already in the science team."

"Both of those are perfect assumptions, it would make perfect sense." The Commander nodded in agreement. The data wasn't too clear at a glance but then again he wasn't an expert on the stuff.

"Oh, of course!" Bertrand was pacing back and forth in front of the CO, his mind afire. "The scientist said, 'I heard the fighting and I hid', but he couldn't have. Laser weapons are almost silent, and he was in the science lab. If he had heard it above the weather at all he would have been unlikely to pick it as a fight. Secondly, They JH emptied all the containers in that room but they didn't even LOOK in his. We haven't caught a survivour. We've caught the spy!"

"That makes sense! He knows the ins and outs of all the Projects." Elijah said as they stopped outside the Lift. "He feeds the intel to the Dominion and they come and take what they need from the records."

Suddenly Bertrand turned white, "And.... we've put a guy who leaves almost no sensor trace in the middle of our ship, in a poorly defended Med bay."

"Oh bugger...." The Commander then looked at Bert. "Get a couple of Officers down there but do it discreetly, we don't want to startle him." He said giving Bertrand a nod. "Oversee it yourself if you have to."

Bertrand didn't even get on the lift. He tapped his badge as he started to run, "Bertrand to Lt Wakeman, Captain Sinclair and Ensign Kilbane; meet me in corridor B7, deck 15. Priority one."
