Inteligent orders

Mission: If I told you...
Location: Station Docking bay

During the confusion of setting up the docking bay, smith motioned Kilbane and Kardis to one side.

"It is as I feared," he began without preamble. "There is no sign of forced entry to the facility, so we must assume this is an internal matter that will require investigation. I need you both to be aware that there is some VERY sensitive information on this station, information which most of your crew do not have clearance to view. I want to spread us out amongst the teams that will be investigating. Your role is to make sure those teams do NOT access any information that is not directly mission specific."

"I believe the Victory crew can be trusted Sir" Kevin replied.

"This is not a judgement on your crew," Smith insisted. "Imagine for a moment that the young Science Ensign happened across a file discussing the names of agents in he Klingon Empire. She would then become a target for the Klingons, and a potential liability to us. How long do you think she would last under d'HirQ interrogation?"

"About as long as you Commander Smith" Karadis replied "Unless of course you think your some sort of superhuman being. Tell me Sir, have you ever been interrogated, I mean really interrogated? I have, and so has the Lieutenant here, and we're not talking a few beatings with sticks over a couple of hours, I'm talking about beatings lasting days, sleep deprivation, water deprivation, being told to keep your bodily functions in till you're fit to burst and if you dare let it out before being told you could you get electric shock treatment, being hung by the neck till you pass out only to be revived so it can be done to you again and again....so don't talk to us like we're Intel freshmen, we've been there and done that, got the T-shirt, pants, socks, trousers, shoes, coat, hat and bloody gloves!"

Kevin turned on Karadis and said "Enough!!"

Karadis glared at her boss and was about to make a remark, but swallowed it back and instead just looked at Smith and glared at him instead.

Kevin looked at the Commander as well and said "Forgive the outburst from CWO Karadis there Sir, but we're not stupid, so please don't treat us as such. We may be new to you as Intel operatives, but we've been round the block a few times ourselves so we know the score and we've been given a brief about this mission and the sensitivity of some of the materials in the database."

Smith nodded, "I am aware of your background. It was why you were selected to e part of this task. So, do either of you have any trouble with your orders? Mission specific information only. If in doubt, you read it first."

"Yessss Sssssirrrr" Karadis replied sarcastically, and threw up a theatrical smart salute then walked off.

Kevin sighed softly as he watched her go, he could feel her pain. Something nasty had happened here on the station, they could feel it in their bones, and this brought back some horrible memories of 'The Collective' and what they'd done to the crew of the USS Frannery. He wasn't going to excuse Karadis to Smith, the man was arrogance personified, and Kevin and Kardis had only just met him yet knew him and a thousand other officers just like him.

Smith noticed the interaction. He paused before continuing, "Your experience at difficult task, specifically dealing with members of Starfleet who could no longer be considered human, may be in need here, Lieutenant. Consider that a warning on what we are all hoping we will not find."
