Transfers

Mission: If I told you...
Location: Captain's Ready Room
Timeline: Just prior to departure

Smith's eyes scanned over the Bridge as he moved to the Captain's ready room. He was an intelligence officer, and much of what he was able to do was because he was good at anticipation and timing. He knew the Captain would be in his office going over what little mission data he had been provided with and making crew selections.

He pressed the chime to announce his presence.

"Enter!" Elijah shouted at the door.

Smith stepped inside quickly but waited till the doors closed before speaking.

"Hello again, Captain," he said, taking note of the extra pip, "And congratulations. SFI is very grateful for our assistance in this matter."

Elijah looked at the SFI Officer. "Thank you Commander, what is it I can do for you?"

"Because of your Doctor's reluctance to engage on this mission I have had to... take some extraordinary steps."

Smith handed the PADD he was carrying to the Captain, "You will find here transfer orders for the doctor and some other key personnel who will be taking a short break off the ship for the duration of this mission. These are personnel who we feel may be an unwarranted risk; either asking the wrong questions or being unsuitable to participate. The transfer orders are all accompanied by Ambassador level authority and non-negotiable. However, the postings are temporary and any member displaced can be returned on your, or their request, at the completion of the mission."

"I trust this does not cause any... complications."

The Captain skimmed through the orders, nothing he could do but it eased his mind and his doubts. "My Uncle is a Captain in Starfleet Intelligence, he told me to be wary of men like you." Elijah said to him. "I see you have brought a Team of your own with you....."

"I am familiar with the other Captain Michaels," Smith responded amicably, "his recommendation of you for this role carried a significant weight."

"Yes, I have brought a few of my own trusted personnel on board to act in key positions where your own crew do not have sufficient clearance. Most of those will transfer off again at the end, though I believe you are in need of a FCO."

He shifted his stance slightly, watching Elijah, "I am intrigued, Captain. What are 'men like me' like that you need be wary of us?"

The Captain looked at him. "You are the Men who have sufficient Power regardless of rank." Elijah chuckled. "If a man has the capability to transfer a portion of my staff......I should be wary."

Smith nodded, "A fair assessment, though perhaps a little to much credit is given. I do not transfer them under my own authority, but I currently have the ear of some very high up people who respect my judgment call on this matter."

"If there is nothing else you need from me I have some preparation to do before reporting to the runabouts."
