Victory and Mercy

Posted on Fri Sep 30th, 2016 @ 3:43am by Commander Bertrand Cuprum & Captain Elijah Michaels & Commander Cor Cordale & Lieutenant Sara'draphia T'eseri & Lieutenant Odelle Lin & Johnathen Wade

Mission: Smoke and Mirrors
Location: Deep Space

In the end it had taken nearly a month for the repairs on the Victory to be completed, including time for shore leave and recovery, and new crew to arrive. Eventually the time had come to set out on some standard patrol and science recon missions.

Elijah was in his ready room when the call came through. His comms chimed and operations officer reported, "Sir, I have an Admiral Gill on the line. Should I patch him through, or do you want to take it on the bridge?"

"The Bridge is fine." He said before heading out.

The face of an elderly Andorian filled the screen. She paused a moment before speaking.

"Hello, Captain. I am sorry Admiral Goddard is detained at the moment so I am passing on this message on his behalf. Listening post 17 picked up a distress call from the Andras system. A colony on Andras IV appear to have suffered some form of natural disaster. The Andrasi are not a Federation species, but they have sent the distress call using a Federation frequency, so we have decided to lift the Prime Directive restriction, as it seem there must have been some form of unregistered first contact. The USS Victory is to proceed to Andras IV and assist the Andrasi colonists. At the same time, try and find out how they managed to come by our frequencies, so we can perform some form of damage control."

"Aye Sir, we can certainly do that." He said with a nod to the Admiral.

"Just to clarify, sir," Bertrand asked from the XO chair, "This is a humanitarian relief mission, and not a first contact?"

"I trust your people to make that assessment when they arrive, Commander," the Admiral countered, "but you are authorized to provide whatever aide they require."

Walking onto the bridge, Sara silently moved over to one side of the bridge. She'd come up to give her report regarding the XO and the other critical patients to the CO. She'd managed to catch Bartrand's question and the Admiral's reply and started going over in her head what medical supplies they had available and what they were short on due to the sudden rush of patients. ~Well, it sounds like the medical staff won't be able to get the rest they need just yet~ Sara thought to herself.

"Thank you Admiral we shall keep you appraised of the situation. Victory Out." He said before the screen
Switched off. "Helm set a course for Andras System, Warp Seven." Elijah said efore taking his Seat. "XO, we best get the Ship ready for relief efforts, see to it." He nodded towards Bertrand.

Bertrand was looking at the data stream from the distress message as it was being relayed to them, "Aye sir. It looks like it was an Earthquake of some kind. They are a mining colony so we might be looking at trapped miners, collapsed buildings. We are still two days away so by the time we get there it will not be a first response medical, but body recovery, food and shelter distribution, so forth."

"Lt T'eseri, we are going to need fewer bandages and more antibiotics. Infection and disease will be the killers now. And let Derring know her team are going to need to roll out their PTSD response."

"Understood Captain, we'all be ready. Though if I can ask for anyone with basic medical training, or even first aid training to lend a hand, that would be a great help"

"Cor, we are going to need to make sure their basic infrastructure is up and running. We will need communication, water distribution, and transportation. You've been in mines before. You know what they need to function."

"Overseers." Cordale answered grimly, almost in a growl, before he actually responded to the comm chirp, "Cordale here. I'll set up a few packages, charge up a few power cells. Shouldn't be a problem." his official answer was far less gruff.

"Kevin, Have security work on body recovery, but see if you can find out surreptitiously how they got our frequency. Don't upset people. Lightly, lightly."

"Aye Captain" Kevin replied. Tapping his COMM badge he said "Karadis, a Security team will be on a body search and recover detail once we get to our destination, by all accounts it's been pretty bad and it sounds like we're going to need a supply of body bags. See to it that the team have a sufficient supply, plus get them kitted out with environmental suits, we don't know how bad it is, so we must protect the team as best we can in the conditions they'll be working in. I'm also going to have you break out a Blue Two, ok?"

"Yes Lieutenent, I'll see to the bags right away, and then the Blue Two" came Karadis' reply.

He then turned to the new Science officer who was standing in place next to the rabitess, "Lt Lin, We need to know from Science if this is a once off disaster or this is going to be a recurring issue."

Valeria turned from the console to face her department head, "We won't be able to tell until we're close enough to scan the planet itself." Over the course of a month or so that replacement Chief Scientist had turned up, and Valeria was back in the role of Assistant. A role she filled nicely.

"Of course, sir. I think we can get working on that."

"Bertrand to Ten Forward. Mr Wade, I need and expert on distributing food and drink to hungry people. You up for a job?"

Wade looked up from his book sitting behind his bar, which had finally been refinished since the attack, looked too Roger who shrugged. "Yeah, we can do it. Just get me some numbers and any restrictions so we don't end up killing anyone on accident."

Turning to the Captain Bertrand continued, "I suggest one of us meet with the colony leaders and see if we can find out how much of a first contact this actually is, and "Wave the flag", so to speak."

"Agreed, we both go." Elijah said to Bertrand. "First Contact requires both of us, but if it is more sinister than that I will leave it in your capable hands XO."
