Medical Relief

Mission:
Smoke and Mirrors
Location: Andras VI
The Andrasi colony had been going for around 200 years now. This was plenty of time to have built a well established culture and infrastructure. However, the colony has remained small and clustered around a number of large mining facilities. The main city has been positioned as a central hub to all of the mines and so it made sense for the majority of the relief effort to be centred there, with wounded being shipped in.
By the time the medical team from the USS Victory arrived it had been three days since the disaster hit. There were few of the serious cases that had not already been treated in some way, but the conditions were strained and there were far too few medical staff to handle the demand.
The main hospital was surrounded by a tent city filled with those with minor and, as yet, untreated injuries.
As the transporter cycle finished, Sara looked around at the scene before them. She couldn't believe how such an advanced society could be brought to their knees by such a thing as an earthquake. Though, to be fair Sara had never experienced one herself as her home world, Thyra, was geologically stable so they didn't have earthquakes.
Taking a deep breath, Sara started handing out orders, "Alright, teams three and four, start setting up a triage station and temporary Operating Theatre. Teams one and two, I want you to start on identifying which patients are of the greatest need and which aren't. Use the following scale from greatest to least; Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green. For any cases either we or the hospital can't handle, have them sent up to the Victory"
The groups spread out quickly, setting to the task. Federation prefab construction was erected quickly to provide offices and additional mass hospital wards, allowing for some quarantine and more sterile environment.
Almost immediately however, it became apparent to Sara that things were not all they seemed. Certainly there were injuries from fallen debris, but there were deep lacerations caused by blades and burns that could only have been a result of disruptor fire. More had happened to this community than an Earthquake.
Making a note of the patients that had injuries not consistent with what she would expect to find in an earthquake, Sara started to notice more and more patients with these strange injuries. Walking over to a small prefab room she'd had the engineers set up for her to use as a personal office space, Sara tapped her combadge, "Dr T'eseri to Victory, I need to speak to the Captain as soon as he is available" she said, looking out the door as more injured people were brought in.
By now, they weren't just being brought in by ambulances, but they were walking in, being carried in and even crawling in by themselves from nearby tents. Sara had never seen so many people in need before. Even the ordeal that the medical staff had just been though onboard the Victory didn't quite compare to the numbers of injuries that she was seeing. Taking a deep breath, Sara decided to get back to work while she waited for a reply from the Captain. Locking her PADD away in a safe, Sara used a small amount her Telekenitic abilities to close the safe as she walked back out into the triage area.
Jack was no doctor, nor a consular, but he could help patch up very minor injuries as Roger handed out coffee and hot chocolate to try and just calm some of the peoples nerves. As he patched them up he noticed that the injuries where more from weapons then falling debris. He stops at one of the patients. "So, what happened out there, those look like some real nasty knife cuts. Did the quake trigger a riot?"
"It was the Klingons," the patient winced, resting his leg. "Small group of them landed just before the attack. My brother and I had to fight them off hand to hand. Of course none of the police will admit to it, but the signs are there if you know where to look. Not the first time I have had a skirmish with them either."
"Wasn't Klingons," another patient whispered conspiratorially to Wade as he began to move off. "They were using disruptors but they were Nausicans. You get a lot of them as pirates near here. My freighter had a close call about three years back."
"Clever aren't they," the local nurse said. "Whoever they are, they seemed to have disguised them selves as half a dozen races. You want my opinion? Surgically altered Cardassians. Cunning." She tapped the side of her nose knowingly.
"Victory to Doctor, the Captain is at the Main Chamber on Andras." The officer over the channel said. "I'll divert him to you."
After a short moment the channel reconnected. "Michaels here, Doctor. What's wrong?"
"Sir, my medical teams are in place and we're working on the wounded, but I've come across dosens of cases that aren't consistent with what I would expect from an earthquake. I've got stab wounds, disruptor blasts and several other strange injuries. If i had to guess, It looks like injuries from combat. I'm keeping track of the injuries, but this doesn't look good"
After a short pause, Sara continued, "I ask that you send a few security teams or marine squads down here just in case the worst should happen"
That wasn't the fun part. "I'll see to it."
A short time later Bertrand arrived with a team of Victory Security, "What seem to be the problem here, Doctor?"
"I've noticed more than a few injuries inconsistent with an Earthquake. I've made a list of the cases. It would seem this planet is in the middle of a conflict"
Bertrand nodded and spoke quietly, "I have also seen signs on the street of struggle, weapons impacts on walls and the like, but scattered. If it were and invasion force, they would be clustered around key locations, instead they tend to be random. And no signs of any dead hostiles."
"It is rather strange. For now we're treating the injuries like all of the others. I am unsure if someone has been questioned about it, but that's not my job here" Sara said.
Bertrand rubbed his forehead, "Something strange went on at the Mine site as well, and the weapons battery. What ever they are saying, the people here are convinced it is the truth. I think we need to gather the officers and work out what we are really looking at here."
"Well I am sorry Commander, but I am needed here. If you require a member of the Medical team with you, I'll be more than happy to send someone with you," Sara said before moving off to dive back into the mountains of injuries she and her staff had to treat.
Bertrand looked at her carefully before responding. "I am sorry, Lieutenant," he said carefully stressing the rank, "but when you next take a break we will arrange for you to be transported to a meeting for all heads of staff. When that is done, we will beam you straight back. If you have a spare person to send to that meeting, they can stay here and do your work while you attend. That is not a request."
