Allies on the Border

Mission:
The Trial of Cor Cordale
Location: Observation Lounge, Deck 1
Timeline: 10:00 hours - On course to Niron 5
Elijah sat at the head of the table. A place he always sat and he always had a view of the room. He looked at the space of empty seats and waited for his Staff. They had a lot to discuss and for once it was about a lifeline.
Scotty walked in and sat down, he was a little nervous after hearing about the Jennari. He couldn't help but feel as if he were at war.
After the Captain had left the bridge and informed everyone of the briefing in an hour AJ headed back to his office to make sure all of training schedule and shift schedules were in order. Than he made his way in the Observation lounge. First time he had a briefing in one of them he thought most ships did these things in the ready room. He enjoyed the view as he walked in and nodded to the Captain before finding a seat with his PaDDs.
Ziyal had three PADDs, her personal one for notes, the one for the Jennari, and one for the Colony that they were going to be visiting. She sat down and spread them out infront of her.
Elliot entered next. Per the request of the Captain there was to be a representative from the Diplomatic Department present. The Lieutenant nodded and took a seat next to Ziyal and Kayne.
Next through the door was the science officer, Valeria Mordin. The rabbitess brought a PaDD with her in an arm, prepared to take notes as well. She noticed that she wasn't the only one that was eager to take notes, and so she gave Ziyal a nod and a soft ghost of a smile. Crossing the room with hardly any noise to her footsteps she took a seat and prepared herself for the briefing.
Next was Cordale, the Engineering chief. Delayed only to get himself a mug of coffee in what had quickly become 'His Mug', a white oversized mug with a caricature of his face on it, two thumbs up with the phrase "Thux to be You" written on it. The Thux padded in with hardly any of the grace or stealth of the rabbitess who came before him but someone like Cordale was hardly suited for stealth. He gave a nod to those he already knew, and to Ziyal he gave something of a bigger nod. "Hey. Made it to a meeting. Don't worry, they're quick." he whispered as he took the seat next to the Cardassian.
Kevin entered the Observation lounge quietly, well in his deluded mind quietly, in reality he stumbled in, bounced of a couple of chairs like a pinball and fell onto one of the bulkheads with a thud.
"Shhhhhhhhh!!!!" he said to the bulkhead in a conspiratorial manner, an index finger held up to his lips and with eye's on stalks "Capn's called a bri...briefing about thhhh next shinnnnnaannaginns....sorry, mish'n, so we best not draw attenshun to ourselves."
He patted the bulkhead and continued "I've no idea what that doc gave me in that hypo for the pain in my shoulder, but I feel great!
Bertrand appeared behind the man and steered him gently to a chair without comment. The grizzled first officer looked like he had been sleeping at his desk again, greying hair rumpled and uniform creased. He moved up to the position next to the Captain and sat down. Like the Captain he watched all of the crew during the briefing.
Walking into the lounge, Sara was reading over a letter she'd recieved from home. It had been a while since she'd had word from her people and it made her smile to read some good news for a change. Looking up to see Kevin in a stooper, she simply shook her head and found one of the empty seats.
Lin walked in with a nod, taking her seat. She'd heard there was a briefing... Was just time to see where they were headed to next.
Once they were all seated Elijah sat down and took his seat. "Good Morning everyone. I know we have a lot of ground to cover so I'll be as quick as possible." He input a command into the 3 Dimensional holographic display.
"I give you the Niron System." He said displaying the Star Chart. "7 Worlds, only 3 of which are M Class and here is our destination." He changed display. "Niron 5, total population 14 billion. And with that comes this, the Presidium the most advanced Shipyard and repair facility in the Quadrant."
Kevin looked at the XO and whispered loudly "Hey, Capn's very generous with his gifts....he jus' gave us a whole sis'mmm. How are we gonna divvy it up though, bagsy on the shipyard?"
"You wish," Bertrand responded. "That's the latest prize for the Federation. If we can smooze the locals enough to let us use it then we have a major advantage against the Jenarri."
He glanced at the Captain, "Sorry. Was I stealing your thunder? You were saying about the Presidium..."
"Not at all you've hit the nail on the head." Elijah commented. "The Nironese have been wanting Federation Membership since the 2370's and they're right on the doorstep of the Jennari it's a no brainer and to tell the truth Presidium rivals even Utopia Planetia."
"I've been looking at the released specs, which of course are only the basics. They claim they could get a Sovereign class built from scratch in under five years," Bertrand observed.
"They have geothermal power, and a sophisticated Geo-stabilization unit that the Federation would love to get a closer look at. They literally have a city hanging in space supporting the shipyard."
"So, I am guessing we need some Diplomatic and command personnel to handle the aforesaid shmoosing, a technically capable group to take a tour of the facility to see it can do everything that they promise, and I would like a team to visit the surface, if that is acceptable Captain. Everything in the reports says it is relatively safe except for the terrorist cell, 'the White Hand'. I'd like to get some eyes on the ground though, all the same."
"Actually captain, I would recommend that no one goes to the surface of any of the M class planets in this system until they have been to sickbay" Sara stated, bringing up a bio scan She had been sent by Nironese scientists, "these people seem to have a rather invasive virus that they have spread through their system. They have a vaccine for this virus which I have modified for use on most Federation species. Unfortunately, the Vaccine has a couple of side effects such as hallucinations and feelings of euphoria. They will pass in about an hour after being administered but it's safer if I keep the away team members in sickbay for that time"
"Dammit, that's what I'm talking about!" Kevin said in support of the doctor "She's the one who gave me the hypo earlier that's made me feel this wonderful and if she can make us see pink elephants with this new stuff, whilst feeling happy about it, sign me up!"
Elijah rolled his eyes. He then turned to the others. "Those on the Away Team will report to Sickbay for vaccination first." He then scrolled through some more information. "Cor I'd like you to handle the technical side of things if you don't mind? Have either Val or Odelle with you."
The Thux gave a nod, "Consider it done." Hallucinations and euphoria? Well, if it just meant he'd be making as big a fool of himself as Kevin was, at least it'd be contained. Better to be a fool behind closed curtains then, well, slumping off the walls.
"Number One would you like to go with Cor or to the Planet? I know Diplomacy isn't your thing." Elijah chuckled.
Bertrand almost smiled, "I'm happy to take the planet side team. Some R&R might be nice. All in the name of getting a better understanding of the locals of course. I am keen to find out more about White Hand.
"Where would everyone else like to go?" Elijah to the open floor.
Ziyal thought for a moment, considering where she would be of the most use.
AJ voiced up. "I think it is best the Marines remain on the ship with a Quick Response Team standing by in case things go south planetside. No need for us to scare the locals unless need be."
Kevin shook his head, as if coming out of a dream "What happened, the last thing I remember was being in sickbay getting my shoulder looked at?"
Bertrand laid his and on his shoulder, "Easy there, son. Just sit quiet for a moment and it will all come back."
He turned his attention back to the crew to see who would be joining him, the Captain, Cor or staying on the ship.
The resident rabbitess turned her attention to AJ, "If that's the case, and I believe it very much should be, whoever is on the emergency response team will need to receive the inoculation as well, and suffer through the side effects." a pause, "Though, it's a small price to pay."
AJ smiled at the Medical officer. "I don't care how much they might squirm my men will be there for the vaccines. I only ask we hit my whole team at once. That way while they are having the 'side effects' I can put them through some Altered state training."
"That is acceptable. I will need to know what species your people are. I've found some species have special requirements" Sara replied, "as for where I would like to be. I believe sickbay would be the best location for me, just incase someone reacts to something on the surface"
Slightly embarrassed, Kevin raised his hand and said "Could someone please fill me in on what's happening, looks like I missed something due to my...well, the eh, mistake with the hypo."
Valeria gave a nod, "Certainly. We're enroute to Niron 5, where the Nironese have reconsidered their previous stance on admission into the Federation of Planets due to the looming threat of the Jennari. There's a mild contagion on the surface which requires inoculation prior to exposure, and the inoculation has unusual but nonfatal side effects, which you are currently recovering from." a pause, to collect her thoughts, "We're exploring options as far as away team break downs, with Commander Cordale and perhaps myself investigating the shipyards, while others are free to choose their own destination."
"The only other marks of interest currently are a rogue faction branded terrorists known only as the White Hand. Perhaps an allegory to a glove or a hand covered in ash. I don't have enough data to form a solid theory at the moment. Aside from that, Niron 5 seems simply inviting, and the Nironese seem a decent people, if somewhat forced to a decision based on the threat of war."
"I don't recall getting an inoculation for a contagion, just a mild sedative hypo for my shoulder. So long as the sedative wasn't Ematicor hydrochloride based, it does funny things to me....oh wait, perhaps that explains why I can't remember anything. Anyway, I'll have the Security team report for their inoculations. If there's a terrorist threat, I'll head the Security team to look into it, find out what their threat level is and if there's any links to the Jennari."
"My expertise I think requires me to go on the Diplomatic Team, first impressions and all of that." Elliot said with a nod. "You'll need an expert on Nironese Politics."
The Captain nodded. "Understood." He gazed towards Ziyal. "Tajor? What's your take on this?"
Ziyal glanced around the table, "Well sir, I think my expertise would be valuable in both locations. However, as Elliot is more of a diplomatic specialist and I'm responsible for coordinating with allied units, I think it's probably better that I go with Cordale to the shipyards."
"Alright." Elijah said with a nod. "Myself and Lieutenant Keller will deal with the Diplomacy." He said with a nod to Keller. "Commander Cuprum you and Kilbane will head up the team to the surface and Cor you'll take Tajor, Lin and Mordin to the Shipyards." He then paused and looked towards the others.
"Captain Jones I'd like a Marine Unit on Standby just in case we need them." Elijah said to the marine CO. "Per Regulations you shall also be left in Command of Victory, Mister Kayne and the Doctor I'd like the two of you to remain as XO and Second Officer respectively."
"Gladly, sir." Kanye said. He was nervous, staying aboard helped calm his nerves, at least.
AJ was shocked by that last order. He had planned on having a team ready that he was going to lead, but now he was being given temporary command of the ship. "My team will be ready sir. For clarification if the marines are needed I am to remain here or lead them in?"
"You'll lead them in." Elijah confirmed. "Kayne will then have the Ship moved to a safe distance ready for the return of our teams."
"And if the Jennari show up, sir?" Kayne asked
"Get the hell out of there and proceed to Federation Space at maximum warp." Elijah said looking at him.
"Y-yes, sir." Scotty said, hesitantly. He didn't like the idea of leaving the captain behind, but if he must, he must.
Bertrand grinned. He completely understood Jone's reaction. "Don't worry. I have had to leave the Captain and crew stranded almost every second mission. They always turn up."
Elijah chuckled. "Alright everyone you know what needs to be done and where you need to be." The Captain switched off the display. "Dismissed."
