Responsibility

Mission:
Trills and Thrills
Location: Ready Room
Hel approached the ready room with a heavy heart. They'd been on shore leave for some time now, but things hadn't really returned to the way they were just yet. She hesitated a moment before ringing the door chime.
“Come in.” Elijah said looking at the door of his Ready Room. He wasn’t expecting any visitors so it would be interesting to see who it was.
"Hey Boss man." Hel spoke, stepping inside, waiting to continue until the door was closed behind her again. "I'll get right to the point. I'm worried about Cordale. I think the episode in the arena might've gotten to him in a bad way, and he's too proud to ask for help. He's easily distracted, misses simple details, zones out, is generally jumpy."
That gave Elijah cause for concern. It was very unlike Cordale to act in such a way and that was a problem. “I see, have you spoke to him about it?”
She shook her head. "No, not yet. Figured I'd hand the ball to you first, see what you think we should do."
Elijah nodded. “Alright, thank you Hel.” The Captain day and passed for a moment. “Now don’t BS me I want you to tell me the truth, do you think Cor is up to it??”
She shook her head. "As long as things stay calm, maybe. I can pick up the slack. But the moment you're going to demand more from engineering than the status quo ..." she left the thought unfinished.
"I see your point." Elijah responded. "Well it's a grey issue because he hasn't shown any reason to be doubted just yet."
"Which is why I came to you with this, to ask for advice." Hel offered.
The Captain sighed. "As a Captain I can't do much until I see him in action and performing his duties." The Captain then leant forward. "But as a friend.....Talk to him." Elijah said softly to Hel. "Cor chose you to be his Assistant and he wouldn't leave Engineering in the hands of a person he didn't trust."
"Well, you've known him longer than me." Hel gave a nod. "But, talk to him, that I can do."
"Good." Elijah said to her. "You're a damn fine Engineer Hel, and I know that Cor has the right people around him should he ever need a break."
The smile on her face showed that she appreciated the compliment. "Thank you Sir." Then a pause, a moment's hesitation. "There's another matter. I know that there are regulations in place against relationships between fellow officers, but I also know that those regulations are often ignored. Where do you stand on this?"
He held his hand up. The Captain never asked about the private lives of his officers, it didn't matter to him as long as they did their jobs. "Regulations also allow for me as Captain to stretch my authority on this matter, I know or rather have known about your relationship with Miss Mordin for some time and as long as it doesn't affect your work I have no problems."
"It helps I suppose that neither of us are combat personnel." Hel smiled. "I'm sure you can understand why I felt the need to ask. But, thank you." A nod. "Well, that's it for me. I'm gonna go talk to Cor. Thanks, Boss."
"Keep me informed on Commander Cordale if you'll please Hel." The Captain then returned to his work.
"Will do." she agreed, and with that she left to go talk to Cor.
