[Backpost] Tensions and inoculations

Posted on Mon May 1st, 2017 @ 12:24pm by Lieutenant Commander Ziyal Tajor & Lieutenant Ishan Satele & Lieutenant Sara'draphia T'eseri

Mission: The Trial of Cor Cordale
Location: Sickbay

Ziyal made her way towards the sickbay. Time for her to get her inoculation. In her experience, Cardassian biology was a bit exotic. Not insanely outside of the norm, but enough that she preferred for her doctors to know what normally actually looked like for her. She was also fairly sure that a variation might need to be prepared for her. She entered the sickbay and scanned for the doctor, a blue woman who's species she was not familiar with yet.

Standing in the middle of sickbay, Sara was talking with an old friend she'd made from one of her last assignments, Lieutenant Ishan Satele. The last time they had seen one another, Satele was still wearing red and Sara was learning how to deal with Klingons.

Hearing someone enter the room, Sara turned to see a Cardassian woman standing there in a Starfleet uniform. This was a rather strange sight and from what others had told her, wasn't very common. Walking over to her, Sara smiled, "welcome to sickbay, how can I help you?"

Ziyal tensed slightly, her contact with Satele had been brief, so she was not sure what the hybrid thought of her. Then she smiled at Sara, "Hey, I'm Ziyal, I'm needing to get the inoculation so I can be a part of the away team."

"By all means, come on in. I'd be more than happy to scan your body" Sara said with a smile, motioning to one of the empty biobed.

Satele shook her head, "that may not have been the best way of putting it" she said

Sara looked over at Satele, "oh sorry, I'm still not accustomed to your Federation culture" she said, turning back to Ziyal, "I didn't mean to offend you"

Ziyal smiled, "No, I was quite complimented when it looked like the cute doctor wanted to flirt with me." She said, smiling at Sara and Satele as she moved on over to the biobed. "So that means that you didn't grow up here, where are you from doc?" She asked.

Following Ziyal over to the biobed, Sara picked up a nearby medical tricorder and pulled out it's wand, "I'm from a planet called Thyra. My people are from outside of Federation space and made contact with Starfleet around ten years ago. I have to admit, although I am familiar with most Federation species, I'm not so familiar with species outside of the Federation. I can tell from your appearance that you are Cardassian, am I right?"

Ziyal nodded, "Right, although I was born on a planet that is inside the Federation." Ziyal noted, eyes shifting briefly to Satele so that Ziyal could gauge her reaction. "That's a long story, but Cardassia's outside of the Federation. I've never actually been there, although I hear it's beautiful. What's Thyra like? Filled with beautiful blue skinned space babe's like you?" Ziyal said jokingly, and smiling at Sara.

"Yes it is. My species is mono-gendered so we only have what you might consider to be females. Gender doesn't really have a meaning for us, it wasn't until we left our home system that we encountered species with more than one gender"

Ziyal cocked her head, "That's interesting, I've never heard of a species like that before. What brought you to the federation?"

"Why do you want to know?" Satele asked, looking at Ziyal with suspicion. "You've got a fair amount of questions"

Ziyal's head turned to Satele. She hid her worry about the potential minefield that she was walking into. That Satele's tone was suspicious worried her. Ziyal shrugged casually. "I suppose everyone does when they meet someone new and interesting."

Satele didn't respond, but just kept her eyes on Ziyal. Her reason was sound, but she'd learnt to distrust Cardassians.

Sara looked between the two women in worry. She could tell something was going on, but she didn't know what, "um, well ok than" she said, triggering the biobed to begin the scans while she prepared the inoculation. She hadn't counted on cardassian physiology so she hadn't created a serum for them.

Noticing Sara confusion, Satele tried to explain, "the reason you may be noticing some tension doctor is due to the past relations between the Cardassians and the Bajorans. They weren't exactly pleasent"

Ziyal was still while the biobed scanned her. "That's putting it mildly. There was a huge war where Cardassia lost, due in no small part to the efforts of Bajorans. There are a lot of Cardassians that blame Bajorans for the death of hundreds of millions at the end of the war. Cardassia was irrevocably scarred in the bombings. There is a growing group of Cardassians who don't remember when Bajor was part of the union, and only remember the humiliation that they see Bajor as handing them."

"And the Cardassian extremist group 'the true way' is still killing Bajorans in the name of retribution" Satele added, giving a sigh, "hmm, i guess both sides have their reasons to hate the other"

"Well this is my sickbay, so I would kindly ask the both of you to leave this little Cold War outside. As far as I'm concerned, this place is Hyetiana" Sara said firmly, completing her work

Ziyal looked curiously at Sara, "Hyetiana?" She asked.

"Hmm? Oh that's right. Um let me think what was the name of that planet?" Sara asked herself, trying to think "Nirenda something?"

"Nimbus III" Satele answered, "she's saying this place may as well be the DMZ"

"Well, I guess we'll just have to live out our lifelong dream of strangling each other to death somewhere else." Ziyal said jokingly.

"You may just get that opportunity" Satele commented.

Giving a sigh, Sara shook her head, "are all short lived species so childish?"

"Well, we don't all have the luxury of a century long lifespan" Satele retorted.

"I think it's because you get boring when your old." Ziyal said with a playful smile.

Sara was even more confused, these people disrespected their elders? Finishing up her work on the inoculation, she walked over to stand beside Ziyal, "after I inject the serum, it will take a few minutes for the effects to begin. I cannot predict what you'll see, so think of positive things" she said, gently putting the hypospray to the woman's arm.

"Maybe you should add a truth serum as part of the inoculation" Satele said, more out of spite for Ziyal than anything.

Ziyal nodded, as the injection started to flow through her bloodstream. "I took a truth serum once, told the whole truth, most of the good parts were about frogs."

She closed her eyes, praying mentally. The Oralian Way had been underground for generations. Secrecy was a way of life for them and deeply tied into their religion. Not because it was inherent to what they believed, but out of necessity.

When she opened her eyes, to her Sara and Satele, and a third figure, were dressed in the traditional robes and masks of the the Oralian Way. They were all Oralius. She reached up and touched the mask on her own face. She was Oralius. She did not remember how she had gotten the silver mask from her room or putting it on. However, their ceremonies could be held anywhere that there were two or more together. Ziyal slid off the biobed to join them.

Seeing Ziyal starting to act strange, Satele prepared herself to defend the doctor. "What is she doing?" She asked

"I'm not sure" Sara answered, keeping an eye on her paitent, "Lieutenant Tajor? Where do you thing you're going?"

"We should do our recital quickly, there are spies everywhere." Ziyal said, not sure why they would have their masks on if they were not. The Obsidian Order was everywere. "We are Oralius." She intoned the first line of the recital.

Sara looked over at Satele, hoping she would know what was going on.

Satele simply shrugged and chose to try and brake the illusion, "Lieutenant, we are not Cardassian" she said, taking a few steps towards her, "in fact, this is a Maquis hideout"

Ziyal looked slightly confused, not sure what that had to do with anything. She frowned, that was not the second line of the recital. "So what am I doing here, and in my priestess robes!" She said, slightly alarmed, and starting to take off her uniform.

"You were captured by Cardassian extremists who had twisted your religion to suit their terrorist purposes. Starfleet hired us to get you out" Satele explained, coming up with the most likely scenario where a Cardassian would be in a maquis hideout. "The doctor here was treating you of an illness you had contracted"

Ziyal opened her eyes wide, she did not remember much about this, but it was starting to come back to her. "Is this true doctor?" She asked Sara.

"Um...." Sara hesitated, looking over at Satele who simply gave her a nod. "Yes, it is true. I was approached by these people to treat your illness as they did not have anyone capable" she said, thinking that 'the Maquis' was just like a mercanary gang and wouldn't often have a doctor in their ranks. "Now, if I could get you to lay down over here...." she said, moving to another biobed, thinking it may play into the illusion, "...I still have a couple of tests to run"

Ziyal nodded, following the doctor and sitting on the biobed.

Relieved that the situation was able to be handled easily, Sara followed Ziyal over to the biobed and began conducting a few routine scans to finish off the facade but to also keep an eye on her bio-readings
