Meeting the Chief Engineer

Posted on Mon May 4th, 2015 @ 7:17am by Lieutenant Mickey McClane & Commander Cor Cordale

Mission: Debts to be settled......
Location: Chief Operations office
Timeline: After meeting Captain Sinclair

Mickey McClane, had met almost everyone. Now it was time to meet the chief engineer. He made sure there wasn't any butting heads in the future. Mickey made sure that he can't always play the hero like he did before besides he had to make sure he worked with that crew. He was back in the came and this time he was staying in starfleet.

"Well, that was most interesting wouldn't you say my old friend?" Mickey said nicely to the Acting Ensign, as he fed him his meal and went to his desk with a drink replicated. They had returned to the operations office/quarters to recuperate before duty, there was one person in mind that he wanted to meet the chief engineer.

"I wonder, i hope Lieutenant Cordale didn't get mad to the fact that you were in the engine room. Even though were almost away my friend i rather not get on his bad side" Mickey smiled as he took another drink and sent one of his human operations officer to call for the Chief Engineer.

Cordale was, indeed, in his engineering bay. The Pit, as he called it. In his prosthetic hand, he held a ceramic coffee mug decorated with a cartoony caricature of his face with two thumbs up, one obviously mechanical. Around this doodle, were written the words "Thux to be you!". Inside this mug, sweet sweet coffee.

It was mid-swig when he got the call. "Chief Engineer Cordale, sir. Could you come to the Operations office at your earliest?" and after swiping through a monitor panel two or three times, his schedule was amazingly clear at the current. "Tell Lieutenant McClane I'm on my way." and true to word, the Thux turned to the first Engineer he saw and let them know where he was off to, to establish a chain, and then he made his way to Ops. Mug and all.

He made good time, despite the ship's scale, and gave a nod to the operator who called him, who directed him to McClane's door. Rather then ring the announcer chime, Cor simply switched hands on his coffee, then actually knocked three times on the door with his mechanical hand.

"Come in!" Mickey said from the other side as Aladdin was still eating in his office. When the door swished open, the blue furred weaselmorph padded his way in, and gave a raised mug salute to the fellow Lieutenant. "Ah, Lieutenant! Nice to meet you sir" Mickey smiled and offered his hand. "Please, just Cor. Sir makes me sound old." he chuckled, and switched the coffee mug back to his prosthetic to shake the man's offered hand.

Then Cor noted the canine. "Sentient, or no? It's hard to gauge on first impressions and I don't want to talk down to a fellow officer. Served on a ship where the science officer was a mouse. A big mouse, but like... twenty centimeters. Not like, you and me big but... you get the idea."

Aladdin had finished eating and then walked over to the chief engineer. The Black Labrador smiled at him and offered his paw to him.

Cor knelt down, and took the canine's paw in a shake. He gave it the same consideration he gave Mickey's handshake. "And hello to my fellow fur covered, tail having traveler. I'll ask your companion to rig the doors to pause a second before closing, because he doesn't have a tail and we do." he stood, and gave Mickey a nod.

"Well, Cor. i just wanted to meet you. So that when the ship is in danger, we can tag team keeping the ship intact. Because the last time that happened was on a different ship many years ago. The old chief was a stubborn jackass. So, i am just seeing if we can tag to keep the ship operational even if i have to throw in a few bypass codes" Mickey chuckled a bit as he grabbed his drink of black coffee.

"Well, I don't really like people fiddling with my reactor, because in a crisis most people don't exactly document what they do to fix the problem. Which leads to meetings about what people did and how we can document it and yadda yadda. Now, I don't know about you, but I can't hold my breath long enough for a rescue, so keeping this ship moving and intact is kinda right up there with 'I survive' on my priority list, so absolutely. You handle things on your end, I'll make sure you guys are low on the list of stations to cut power to in reserve situations. The old back scratch trade, I think." he smirked.

"I do have a few proposals for streamlining Engineering, for future release, up here in the Thuxbrain." he tapped his noggin with his living hand. "Nothing like self-destruct overrides or six easy steps to take over the ship, but little things like replicators being authorized to automatically reboot if their database gets glitchy, or secure doors automatically silently contacting department heads if there are three failed attempts to open them. You know, little things that pile up and make life hell for us." a pause to sip some of his coffee. W... was that cinnamon, in that coffee?

"Let the little things work out, so that we can handle the big things, like keeping us mobile and intact... but that's future stuff. Maybe a month or two, not today."

"Of course, but i would have to run it by you. You are responsible for this baby. She is like a child, but you know. I know we both gotta do what we gotta do to keep this ship alive. But we can both agree on one thing Cor. We both would rather survive. So I'm with ya." Mickey chuckled in amusement.

Cor gave a nod to that. Survival was always good.

"Want some Coffee? Or is there a pot of it in your personal mug in there?" Mickey offered as he was a guest in his office.

"This is the Thuxblend. A secret blend handed down through the line of my people and..." and at that, he couldn't keep a straight face. "I'm just bull'ing you. Coffee with cinnamon in it. A little extra kick to keep you awake and alert. Was at an open market on a shore leave some time ago, and managed to buy most of an actual coffee maker. Hammered out the parts I needed, and I try to keep myself in good stock of actual beans, so yeah you ever want some actual joe, come on down." he offered.

"I know i don't know anything about you or the Thux. But, hey isn't that what the purpose of a new crew? Getting to know one another? Well, i'll tell you one thing i have a huge passion for the stories of the Old Enterprise that crew i have a strong emotional attachment to them but i will see to it that it doesn't come out unless your in danger besides, my job as well is to protect my shipmates too" Mickey nodded to him politely as he was ready for the adventure.

"Well, discovery, self-discovery, all that jazz." he said with a smirk. "You know as much about the Thux as I do, truth be told. Most of what I know about my own people was me and my two best friends goofing off in a latinum mine, digging a semi-honest dig, working a semi-honest job. That's where I got this..." he motioned with his head to his left. "I read a lot about the Enterprise, about that crew. They were good folks, open and friendly. I think that's why I run my pit the way I do. Instead of 'Sir' it's 'Chief', a little more open, so that if there's a problem no one's more afraid of me than they are the problem." he pointed out.

"I think you and I, and your traveling companion, are going to get along just fine." he said, and he meant it.

"Well then, Cor, i guess we found a common ground. Your right this will be an adventure i so damn well look forward too" Mickey chuckled and handed him a pot of coffee and poured him a new batch in his mug, to which Cor aided in by crossing half the distance. "So, what's your companion's name?"

"Acting Ensign Aladdin, that's his name. My last posting the Captain of that ship made him an acting ensign. I know it seems odd my good man, but hey he is a ladies man. Earlier i met up with Captain Sinclair down at the Barracks and Lieutenant McCray down in ten forward. I will say they will be a joy to work with. Your Ensign Chandler, he and i know each other from the Jupiter station, i will tell you Cor, you got one helluva engineer though he has his flaws. But don't we all i know i do." Mickey said as he sat down on the sofa with coffee in hand.

Cor gave a nod, "I haven't met anyone perfect yet." he chuckled, then knelt down and gave Aladdin a scratch behind the ears. "You're named after a troublemaker." he smirked. Others fancied themselves experts on classic literature or modern art. Cor loved the fantastic stories humans and other races told.

"Oh, i hope you don't get mad. Aladdin and i were down in Engineering. Al, mark his territory" Mickey then starting laughing and couldn't keep a straight face "I'm just BSing you he actually handled himself down in the engine room well." Mickey smirked a bit but couldn't keep it in as he laughed.

Cor wasn't laughing at the start, but once the joke was out he smirked. "I'm glad that story had a funny ending." he chuckled, "Otherwise, I know a funnier one. Stars a guy and his new best friend, the scrubbing janitorial set." though, the Thux was clearly in good humor. Considering that Aladdin didn't issue a contest of territory. Not that that's how the Thux worked.

As far as Cor knew, anyway.

"Just as long as Aladdin doesn't touch anything that bipeds aren't allowed to touch, I think I'm alright with him visiting Engineering." a pause, "And yeah, Chandler seems pretty good. I think he's going to work out. Well, meet and greet aside, I have an engine to prep for the startup run. If you need anything from my end of the ship just give a holler. Just make sure you holler into the comms, cause otherwise I won't hear you." a chuckle. "Take care, and looking forward to seeing what you can do." he said with a nod.

"Agree Cor, see you around" Mickey smiled as he saw the chief engineer left for his duties.

"Come on, Aladdin" Back to work Mickey said as he went back to his desk and Aladdin went beside him to keep him company
