Moriloth had difficulty concentrating properly, today. She had the same problem, yesterday. Something was distracting her deep down. For someone who was a fractal thinker, this shouldn't be happening. It could mean only one thing. Change was coming.
On such a large ship, crew lounges tended to buzz with activity throughout the day. Having time off, Mori felt drawn there. Why, she didn't yet know. People were accustomed to the strange girl being the watchful wallflower. Sometimes, her attention fixed upon particular individuals. Today, it was Bertrand Cuprum's turn. It wasn't so much what he did or said, it was who he was.
Moriloth returned to her quarters. She spent several hours researching the Borg. Their history, their cybernetic communist culture, their known technology and biology, she tried to understand them. Late in the evening, a new visitor stood behind her. Not alarmed, she swiveled her chair around, "Who are you?"
"I... am Moribot of Borg! This Victory hive is inefficient!"
Her imaginary Kingon sneered, "No spirit! No heart! You are not alive!"
Her imaginary Vulcan stepped forward, "I disagree. While I would agree that personal functionality is tragically suppressed, the Borg do share a communal awareness rarely experienced by individuals."
Her imaginary Orion walked around the new psy-borg, "I mourn for you. This is no way to live."
Her friend Borlan also manifested, "Welcome, friend."
The imaginary Borg personality faced Moriloth, "I want to study this space vehicle."
She shrugged, "Sure. Why not?" She happily escorted him out the door.
