R47W De-brief
Posted on Fri Jan 22nd, 2016 @ 12:55am by Commander Bertrand Cuprum & Captain Elijah Michaels & Commander Cor Cordale & Lieutenant Mickey McClane & Lieutenant JG Elliot Keller & Johnathen Wade
Mission:
If I told you...
Location: Conference room 2
It was only an hour after the destruction of the base. The crew had been checked over by Dr Hood and all given a clean bill of health. The notice of a debrief had been delivered and they were now, once more, gathered in the conference room in front of Agent Smith.
On the bench in front of Agent smith were three data drives, those belonging to Wade, Cuprum and the one Cor and Honey had recovered.
Smith allowed people to find a place to sit. He was no strangers to glares and distrust. He hoped this meeting would allay some of the ill feeling, but not all of it.
He nodded to the Captain and began, "I know all of you are feeling miss-used and lied to. To some extent this is true, but not in the way you think. Let me begin by re-iterating that this mission was checked and sanctioned by SFI and various Admirals in SF command. Rather than bore you with diatribe, I am going to give you all a chance to ask your questions, or voice your accusations, and I will respond to each in turn. There will be no disciplinary actions taken for any opinions voiced in this meeting. I will also no be pressing any charges against Mr Wade for his assault on the station. You have my full attention and cooperation."
Mickey And Aladdin arrived in the room. But they stood in the dark. They weren't going to voice there opinions. But hide in the shadows. Aladdin did let out a growl at him. "Pathetic human, Mickey" Aladdin said to his friend quietly about smith.
"I know, let's just listen in" Mickey said as he stood quiet
Kevin sat silent. Though he didn't know as much as Smith about the whole situation, he knew more than most in the room. He didn't know that the destruction of the station was part of the overall plan, and it had come as a surprise. He sat with the PADD that Karadis had managed to download information from the stations mainframe onto when they'd been in the Command Centre. He saw that Smith had other PADD's, and he contemplated whether he should add what he had to Smiths pile....then he decided no, he'd keep it for the moment. He didn't trust Smith, even though they were both SFI.
Without moving his head, Kevin's eye's flicked and landed on each person in the room, wondering who'd be first to speak up.
"Why zombies?" Cordale decided to break the ice with the guile and subtlety of a sledgehammer.
Smith nodded at the question. As good a place as any to start.
"Project Parasol was developed during the Dominion war, by a group of genetically engineered super-minds. They had many ideas, and as the war ground closer to a total loss SF began to consider the more outlandish. Fortunately this one never saw battle field and was shelved.
"The plan was to develop an infection that affected living matter, overriding the nervous system and causing havoc. It was to be deployed on Jem Hadar facilities in the hope of spreading the infection and turning the Dominion on itself. If just one sample of it made it to the Founders Great Link, then they would all be eradicated. It did not develop as expected."
"Earlier this year, the project was re-activated, apparently in response to a new threat, though that threat has not been verified yet. All the data on the project was moved to that station and was destroyed except for these two data sticks and the PADD Lt Kilbane has in his hands and the back up copy that Kardis has made for security reasons."
He pulled hand phaser and fired it directly at the PADD on the desk which vaporized instantly.
"If I can have your PADD's gentlemen," Smith asked, holding his hand out to Kardis and Kilbane, "I think we can all agree that the sooner all trace of this research is destroyed the happier everyone here will be."
Mickey decided to speak up. "Mr. Smith, sense you voluntarily destroyed your PADD. It only seems necessary that we do the same. Besides, whosoever get's there hands on this it would be an entire threat to the galaxy. Especially, the whole ordeal in 2285 on Project Genesis. But, that was over 100 years ago" Mickey said. "Kevin, Kardis. In my opinion, i suggest the evidence be destroyed but by your hands" Mickey spoke his mind and then returned to the shadows.
Elliot sat by and heard out everyone. "With respect Sirs, I must voice my objections into destroying this information." The Ensign was being vocal. "People have died by the hand of Starfleet, and by destroying this data we essentially erase these people from existence." Keller turned to Smith. "I for one veto this course of action."
"I agree." Valeria spoke up. "To further build upon the point, this data is only perceived as wrong or evil because it has been misused. I recommend it be relocated to a more secure archive. Perhaps one with a more zealous oversight." a gentle pause to glance at Smith. Oh she'd never directly assault him or his ideals.
"I also agree that those who perished deserve more then simply being erased from history, though at the same time their families do not need to know any of the more horrific details." she concluded.
Kevin didn't even acknowledge that the Chief of Operations had spoke, the PADD wasn't being destroyed by anyone, let alone Smith. He'd listened to the arguments for and against destroying it, and then spoke out to Smith in a calm, level voice.
"The PADD's not going anywhere with anyone here, let alone being destroyed Commander Smith. You see Sir, much as you'd like to think you have "all the cards", with respect, I can say truthfully unfortunately you don't. You're correct in saying that I do indeed have a PADD with information on it pertaining to Project Parasol, it's not the whole shooting match I grant you, but there's more than just data on the project itself on here, it also contains 'other' information on the involvement by certain Starfleet Officers and starships involved in....shall we say....dubious missions that coincided with the project being started up again."
He paused for a moment before continuing "You know what I'm referring to, Sir."
Aladdin the dog decided to speak up. "With regards with everyone here, why should we hand over the data to you sir. You honestly think that we would give you such power and control. Who knows if someone might get this information. I am sorry but i am not with Mickey on this one i am with more on with everyone here." Aladdin spoke his mind.
"Your right, Aladdin. Captain I withdraw my request." Mickey said to the group
Smith actually smiled, "Yes, I do know the information you are referring to. I have two copies of it here on the desk, recovered by Mr Wade and Cmdr Cuprum, but without any of the details of the project. It implicates a certain Admiral in the re-activation of the project and the illicit traffic in sentient beings for the purpose of experimentation. This was done without SFI's sanction.
"However, as the whole station was secret, and the Admiral in question has some very powerful people in his pocket, SFI were unable to act. What we needed was an independent body we could trust to find this information and act on it, without help or involvement from SFI directly.
"When Captain Michaels Snr heard of the situation he suggested Cpt Michaels Jnr immediately, and a quick check of the crew indicated you had exactly the sort of moral fiber that will not let this go unpunished. And we also knew that you, Captain, have a long standing grudge against the Admiral in Question... Admiral Gates."
"It was this information," Smith pointed to the data chips on his table with the incriminating evidence, "that you were sent to recover, not anything about the actual project itself. Safe storage has proved not to be an option, as there are always ways around it. So we will destroy every last trace of the research before allowing you to chase down the people really responsible."
"I was chosen for this mission because I had hand picked most of the team who went on that station. You shot down colleagues. I killed friends. I was a groomsman at Nurse Chapel's wedding on Risa. I would take it as a personal favour if you found the people responsible for this travesty and brought them to justice, if there ever can be justice for what they have done."
"For now though, I am giving you a direct order to hand over all evidence you have collected on Project Parasol so that I can personally confirm it has been destroyed."
"Fine, you do that then" Kevin said, and threw the PADD onto the table. He looked at Karadis and said "What did I tell you?"
Karadis smirked and nodded as she recalled what Kevin had said to her earlier"...and a proper one to..."
Smith triggered the phaser and destroyed the PADD.
"It may interest you to know that you were considered for a post on the station, Lt Kardis," Smith said. "I am glad now that we did not. I think we will need your fire and passion as this unfortunate tale unfolds. You don't need to like me, but you do need to know we are on the same side."
"Are there any more questions or comments?"
"Yes, I'd like to comment" Kevin said "If you were referring to me there Sir, I'm actually Lt Kilbane, but if you're referring to my colleague here, she's Chief Warrant Officer Karadis. I think you got us a bit mixed up there."
Smith glanced between the pair, still genuinely smiling, "My mistake."
"Why don't you do us all a favor and get out of here. Besides, we have looked at you long enough" Aladdin spoke ready to fight if need be but he was restraining himself from hurting smith but he growled at him.
"If there is nothing else, I will retire to my quarters until we arrive back at the station. For now, all anyone else, including Admiral Gates, knows is that the USS Victory was on a routine scouting and exploration mission."
"Please, go" Aladdin suggested
"Aladdin, Calm down." Mickey petted his dog.
Jack stood up and looked right into Mr. Smiths eyes. "A bit of advice for you next assignment. I know you have to keep somethings need to know, for the protection of all involved, and you did a good job of keeping your cards close too the vest. But may i recommend you let a few things slip when they can increase odd of survival. Like just mentioning that a rumor of one of the projects in the station was immune to energy weapons could have save a few more lives... and prevented that broken nose your hiding so well"
Smith nodded in agreement, "Thank you, sir... Mr Wade. I had hoped to be wrong about the Virus release, which is why I did not pre-warn you all. Another, regrettable, mistake."
Valeria took a moment to catch Smith's attention, "On behalf of the Science department, I'd at least like to thank you for your time. Some may view it as rude or criminal, but as Mister Wade said, sometimes maintaining decor and staying to the mission can be difficult. As such, my department has sensor readings and initial reports of the pathogen mentioned by Project Parasol. As it seems to be the request, you'll have confirmation of full deletion of this data within the hour."
Valeria hated to lose vital data, but in this case NOT having it might save more lives and stop more pain.
"Thank you, Lt Mordin," Smith acknowledged her. "Your compliance and compliment are both appreciated. I will leave you to your duties. Thank you, Captain."
